I gave the Chef's Choice bagel slicer as a Christmas present to someone who absolutely LOVES bagels and I had the opportunity to use it quite a bit over the holidays. The name is a little deceiving though, it isn't just for bagel lovers. It slices plenty of different breads.POSITIVES: This product is very easy to use and cuts all kinds of bread (eng muffins, bagels, etc.) without hassle. It ripped right through a two-day old hard bagel. It has cut straight every time I have used it. It's relatively easy to operate and the design makes it hard (however, not impossible) for someone to injure themselves on the blade. Anyone can use this. My purchase came with a small piece broken off and the customer service at Chef's Choice was top-rate. I had the new piece delivered within a few days after calling them. NEGATIVES: I've noticed a bit of a "machiney" type smell when running the blades. It doesn't affect the bagel but of course isn't too pleasant when running. Don't know if it just my model. The other thing I was surprised about was the size. This Bagel Slicer won't be a small appliance you can keep out on your kitchen shelf, it takes up quite a bit of room and it's better if you store it and take it only when you need to use it. I haven't had a chance to try more traditional bagel slicers like the Bagel Biter. Those are cheaper, smaller, but involve a little more physical work. The Chef's Choice Bagel Slicer is a pretty unique product, does everything it advertises and excels at cutting everything I've thrown at it. That earns it four stars in my book.

It works like a charm!,

O.K., it's pretty expensive at full price for a single purpose item, but it does exactly what it's supposed to do. It slices any bagel, bun, roll or croissant that will fit in the slot, and it's a pretty generous slot.I have a Bagel Biter, and it works, but the safety features make it difficult to clean. I like "everything" bagels, and they're messy! (At least the local ones are.) The Bagel pro is easy to clean and does a wonderful job, even on these jumbo bagels. However, I didn't buy it for bagels, exactly, I bought it because my daughter and I love croissant sandwiches. Even with the best bread knife, and I have one of those, too, croissants are hard to slice without breaking, mashing or tearing them. The Bagel Pro slices them with no trouble. It's worth it to me just for that. ... it's only a few dollars more than a Bagel Biter, and well worth it if you buy fresh, unsliced baked goods. A minor downside is that, as others have said, it's big, but once you use it, you'll find counter space for it.

It's great!,

I love this nifty kitchen gadget. It has so many safety features that I let my seven year old use it. I bought it for my husband's birthday, but find I use it more often. It works quickly, and slices the bagels and energy bars perfectly. I just wish it were a little smaller so I could store it away in our small kitchen. If you're into fancy kitchen things, this is a must for you!!
