4.0 out of 5 stars Works great!
I got this egg cooker about a week and a half ago and have used it several times with great success. The poached eggs were great and my husband loved the Eggs Benedict I made for him -- it was really easy and I even forgot to spray the insert with Pam first (and the eggs came out ok).

My son loves the soft-boiled eggs,as do I. They are so easy to make, we...

3.0 out of 5 stars I loved until it stopped working 6 months later
I loved this product. Made it fast and simple to boil eggs. I know it is simple on the stove, but I sometimes forget to put the timer on and they get over done. The eggs came out perfectly with this egg cooker. We used it a few times a week and we follow the directions. To my suprise, it just stopped working. It worked fine yesterday and today it wouldn't even come on. It...

They are so easy to make, we have had them a lot. Because they're so hot when they're done, I flip the lid over, put it in the sink with cold/ice water, and with an oven mitt or tongs, put the eggs in the lid. The water drains slowly through the steamhole when the lid is flipped, and this cools the eggs down enough to handle but they're still nice & warm inside.

I tried making hard-boiled eggs last night, and just put them in the refrigerator when they were done so I could make egg salad this morning. While my husband hasn't had it yet, everything looked fine although the yolks were slightly greenish on the outside, which is why I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5. I have a method of cooking eggs without the green, but it is rather involved and it's so much easier just to throw the eggs in the machine.

Overall, I'm thrilled with this product & am buying one for my folks. I think our neighbor is getting one now, too - it's a great little machine!

5.0 out of 5 stars There is a difference between boiled and steamed, April 8, 2008

I never thought I would be praising the virtues of an egg cooker until I had an egg that had been steamed. Wow, what a difference. Even cooked to the hard state, both the white and yolk are melt in your mouth soft and tender. A completely different texture than you get with boiling. The steamed eggs are also easy to peel and this cooker doesn't require piercing the shell, like others do. Once you've steam eggs, you won't ever want to go back to boiling them.

I have the number of the manufacturer and hopefully they will honor the one year warranty.

Chef's Choice 810 Gourmet Egg Cooker This egg cooker works beautifully if you have had others in the past. The instructions don't tell you to use less water when you cook more eggs. I don't understand the Physics of this but it does work. I use the required 3/4 cup water when cooking 1 poached egg, 2/3c for 2 eggs, and 1/2c for 3 eggs. If you use the water called for for more than 1 egg you will end up with water all over your counter. I also use 1/2c when hard boiling 7 eggs. These amounts work well & I get great cooked eggs. I also keep a push pin in the kitchen to prick the top of the eggs when boiling them, that way they don't blow up.

After reading many reviews on 4 brands of egg cookers, I chose this one. Though, some of the reviews on this product had me sceptical of purchasing it. Such as people saying this cooker leaked water on their counter, another complaining about being struck by the steam upon lifting the lid, ect...
When I recieved the egg cooker, after opening the box, before I even unpacked the cooker, I picked up the paperwork enclosed and sat down and read the directions. I washed up the cooker and proceeded to make 7 hard boiled eggs. No water ran on my counter, No steam struck me when I removed the lid. So, I disregard the negative comments made about this egg cooker and give it 5 stars. As we learned in elementary school, Always Read The Directions!!!!!

Very nice looking item that I keep on my kitchen counter. Other than water leaking out of it as the steam is created, this item cooks perfect soft boiled eggs for my pets, on a daily basis. I would advise you to keep a small towel or paper towels under it to absorb the moisture.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre at best, May 6, 2009

I bought this because a clerk in the local kitchen store said it was a good product. I doubt he had ever used one! There's no auto-shut off. Water overflows onto the countertop. The results are really hit or miss ... maybe softboiled, maybe medium depending on too many factors for the slide lever to accomodate. I used an Oster egg cooker for many years and finally had to throw it out after the paint started peeling off. Then I bought a Cuisinart; the base on that warped after 3 uses. Then I bought this thinking it was the best I could get. I was so disgusted I donated it to charity and started using the old fashioned method of boling eggs in a pan. Now I see Amazon is carrying an Oster egg cooker. Oh heaven! Don't waste your money on this overpriced Chef's Choice; buy the Oster.

Worst appliance ever. Within weeks the shut off switch failed, so it keeps beeping and cooking even when it's off (not safe!). You have to unplug it. Also, while many egg cookers use up all of a pre-measured amount of water to time the eggs, this one is based on time. This means there is still plenty of steamy water in there when it's done. If you fail to get to the cooker on time, it keeps cooking. There is no auto shutoff. The vertical plastic lid handle is hard to grip and it gets hot and slippery. Sometimes I have to grab two silicone mitts to lift off the top. I always get very hot hands from the steam and sometimes I'm burned. Also, for no apparent reason, about a quarter of the time I use it, it will spew water out the sides and create a huge puddle on the counter (again, not safe!), while it dries out inside. To life out the finished poached eggs, you must lift a hot steamy tray by another vertically placed small plastic stick, which is nearly impossible to grip when it's hot and wet.

This is a good looking appliance, but it has a ton of design flaws. An automatic egg cooker should be super convenient, but the neccessity to get to it to shut it off as soon as it's done makes it very inconvenient. You may as well use a pot.

This Egg Cooker is exactly what I wanted. I put it on the counter, set the time add the water plug into electric outlet and turn on. Egg always comes out perfect. No mess on the stove and the presentation is perfect. Wish I had gotton one prior to now. I recommend it to anyone wanting soft or hard boiled eggs.

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm Dumping It!, June 14, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chef's Choice 810 Gourmet Egg Cooker (Kitchen)
Previously I had an Oster & I'm ordering another one today. I'm dumping this one! It can boil eggs, altho, without the piercing pin feature of the Oster, two of them split open while boiling. But it cannot poach eggs--water all over the counter, & one of the eggs ran out of the tray & into the bottom where it cooked hard to the heating element. My husband & I have tried three times now to poach eggs, & we are through.
If only I had save the box, I would return it for credit...I know it's cute, but do not buy this item expecting performance.
