5.0 out of 5 stars Best Waffle Maker And Very Easy To Clean
I purchased the WafflePro 830B (Belgian Waffle version). The waffles are uniformly cooked, and nice and crisp. Love the beeper function it beeps when the waffles are done. No more guessing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good waffles while it worked
This thing whipped out good quality waffles so fast it was amazing.

Unfortunately, after about 20 uses, it just stopped working. I opened the thing up and couldn't find the problem (I'm an electrical engineer). After reading another review with the same problem, I don't plan on buying another one. Too bad, because it was a great waffle maker. I just hope my next waffle...

I purchased the WafflePro 830B (Belgian Waffle version). The waffles are uniformly cooked, and nice and crisp. Love the beeper function it beeps when the waffles are done. No more guessing.

The best part - I added too much batter and of course the batter overflowed past the nicely designed drip edge. Once the iron cooled down I ran my finger around the side of the unit and all of the overflow batter came off easily by wiping my finger over it. No scrubing required. The secret is that the overflow runs on to the plastic body. No metal to burn to and adhere to. The unit cleaned up in a heart beat... Best unit I have seen yet. In the last two months I have tried and returned both the Villaware and the Krups units prior to buying this unit. I am keeping this unit as it is the best, easy to clean, and perfect waffles every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best "five of hearts" waffle iron available, March 30, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chef's Choice 830 WafflePro Heart Waffle Iron (Kitchen)
The non-stick does not let waffles stick. The automatic ready indicator works for both heating and cooking. The hinge is articulated so the waffles come out with uniform thickness. The edge of the hot part of the iron has a channel to catch excess batter, and, if that overflows, the plastic surrounding the iron has another channel to prevent batter dripping on your counter. The settings for crispness work. The recipe that comes with it is tasty. A perfect product.

The ready indicator has an audible beep, which is great if you are absent-minded before coffee and multi-task while making waffles, but may be annoying to some people.

Don't try to squeeze the batter with the lid, let the weight of the lid do the work. The waffles will generally adhere to the lid more than the base, but peel off very easily if pricked with a fork at the edge, with no waffle bits left on the iron.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice waffle maker., May 24, 2000
This review is from: Chef's Choice 830 WafflePro Heart Waffle Iron (Kitchen)
This is a very nice waffle maker. It has two settings. One for a moisty inside (for my husband) and one for crispy all the way (for me). My toddler likes the hearts. Everything works as advertised. It has different settings for darkness and beeps when ready. I use it to make whole wheat waffles with soya milk and without eggs and it works great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good waffles, but it does break easily, January 30, 2002

Like the two previous reviewers, my waffle iron also suddenly ceased functioning after about twenty or so uses. However, when I returned it to Edgecraft, they sent it back fully repaired in about three weeks! The letter accompanying the repaired unit said that the main fuse had failed. It suggested not plugging in the iron with the color control set to 6, but starting it at around 2 and working up to 6, if desired, after a few minutes. It has worked just fine ever since!

I purchased one of these around three years ago. I love the waffles it makes. After two uses it died. I sent it in. The factory fixed it and sent a letter saying the fuze had blown and not to plug the unit in with the setting at 6, which I have never done. The unit just died again today while cooking a waffle. I have used it about 20 times. I don't understand why the company cannot fix the problem with these units.

These waffle makers are so much better than the other units out there (I own several others), but the reliability sucks!!!

I did not think you could make a decent waffle without a old-style heavy duty waffle maker. However, I stand corrected. One point to mention, is this is the Scandinavian heart style waffles, not deep pocket Belgian style. These are the best for folding with sugar and butter inside (in my opinion).

Pros:
1) drip tray that actually works, no need for newspaper under the waffle iron
2) select either cook through (slower) or crispy outside/soft inside (90 seconds accurate even at darker settings)
3) Brown dial - indicates not only the number but a general idea of light/medium/dark, so instead of having a different timer setting for each family member - I just have to remember their number
4) fast switching between settings - can go from the fast crispy/soft to cooked through setting rapidly
5) heats up quickly
6) LOUD buzzer - my hearing is not as a great as it could be, but I can hear this in the other room
7) non-stick is actually non-stick, no need for Pam
8) floating lid allows for big thick waffles and super skinny weight watcher ones too
9) cool to the touch when on

Cons
1) hard to switch from cooked through on dark BACK to crispy outside/soft inside on medium without too much browning - timer does not adjust for previous hotter setting - this is too much to expect from an inexpensive iron, but that is the one trouble I have had

Bottom line:
This iron is easy to use intuitively and very easy to clean up. I would recommend it to anyone without reservation.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best waffle maker I've ever used, February 20, 2003
This review is from: Chef's Choice 830 WafflePro Heart Waffle Iron (Kitchen)
The non-stick surface is great--I've never used Pam other than the first time and they never stick. Unlike old waffle makers, this one makes them faster than you can eat them and the most wonderful part--the beeper for when they're ready. Makes it very hard to burn them and the heart shape is great for special occasions or picky toddlers.

Mine died (just refused to heat) after about a year of service. It did make great waffles while it lasted. The waffles were so great that this is actually the 2nd one I purchased. The first one died, too.
Seems that the unit really has a problem.

2.0 out of 5 stars Has a short, happy life, April 17, 2004

Two years to the day almost, the waffle iron functioned perfectly. But then the non-stick feature failed. Three-4 months later, using PAM to prevent waffles from sticking, the thermostat began to fail, finallying baking waffles to an unedible crisp. For this kind of price, one should expect a better quality product.
