I recently bought a really great ice cream machine and I happened to be browsing the internet and I saw this waffle cone maker. At first, I thought, "O.K., not another gadget!" but after reading several descriptions of the machine I decided to buy it. Thank God for going with my first mind!! This machine is incredible. After reading the brief instructions, I mixed up my batch of waffle cone mix (Chef's Choice) and set out on my adventure. Spraying a small amount of olive oil onto the heating pads (I always spray oil for the first time of each use) I poured my first coaster-sized amount of mix onto the machine; closed the lid and waited for the appropriate time to elapse. After opening the lid, out came this good smelling circular cone. Immediately, I lifted the cone using a rubber spatula; used the cone roller as indicated and Viola!! A great cone!! Not to mention the wonderful smell permeating my house!!
It took me two tries to get the right amount of mix to make the perfect cone. I had some of the mix slide out the sides of the machine...no problem, just wipe it off. When making your cone fold a small amount at the bottom before you begin rolling the cone; or pinch the bottom of the cone when rolling so that your ice cream will not come out at the end; or put some melted chocolate, butterscotch or caramel at the bottom and let it get hard...a tasty plug!!
The only thing I can think of that would make this one package complete is if the company would supply a rubber spatula, the towel (they mention using) or perhaps a pair of cotton gloves to help roll the cone...it is hot!! However, I really use just my hands. I get a better feel of the roller this way. And, please do not let these couple of items dissuade you from purchasing this machine. That would be terrible. We should all, hopefully, have a rubber spatula and towels!!
Cleaning the machine is a breeze. The non-stick heating pads are greatly appreciated.
I highly recommend this machine. What a great addition to any household that loves ice cream!!
Be Blessed!!

This product is easy to use right out of the box. I got this a couple of days ago and have used it twice. The recipe booklet includes 3 recipes that are easy to follow. I have tried two of the recipes to rave results from my family. You can have fresh ice cream cones any time and they taste better than the supermarket cones in the box. These cones are a little smaller than the fresh waffle cones sold in the ice cream shops. The only thing you need to remember to do is to grease it well and often even though the waffle baker is non-stick some batter does get stuck in the grid of the waffle baker.

My husband has been wanting a waffle cone maker for some time. We finally broke down and bought one. We read all the reviews and compared different models and this one was by far the best. It works great, it's easy to clean and provides great fun for our nieces and nephews. The browing control feature is great!!! I highly recommend it.

My kids love waffle cones but they cost much $ at ice cream parlors and the store. Bought this waffle cone maker & its easy to use - just throw the cone ingredients in a bowl, stir, put the batter in the pan and 1 minute later you have a delicious fresh waffle cone. Could'nt be easier & I've saved lots of $ having cones at home instead of at the ice cream stands. Fun to make with groups of kids too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Waffle Cone Maker, August 28, 2005
This review is from: Chef's Choice 838 Waffle Cone Express Ice Cream Cone Maker (Kitchen)
This waffle cone maker was very easy and fun to use. There are numbered settings to determine the color of the cone. There are red and green lights that tell you when to add the batter, how long to cook it, and when to remove the finished product. The waffle cones come out beautifully only after two minutes.

Elegant Wafer Cones
A bit lighter than our gourmet cones, this batter makes a delicate wafer cone. Cake flour ensures the best results. If you use all-purpose flour, you may need to add a small amount of additional oil to the recipe.
Yield: About 8 cones

2 whole eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
2/3 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp.vegetable oil
1 cup cake flour
1 tsp. vanilla extract

1. Preheat the WaffleCone Express(tm). Start with Color Control setting of 2 1/2 to 3, but change as necessary for best results.
2. Beat the eggs and salt in a small bowl with a fork until well blended. Beat in the sugar and beat until sugar is incorporated and the eggs have lightened in color slightly, about 1 minute. Stir in the oil. Add the cake flour and stir slowly until all flour is moistened. Beat another 15 seconds to incorporate the flour and remove all lumps. Stir in the vanilla extract.
3. Spoon 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) of batter in the center of the iron. Bake for 1 minute then check for proper color. Cook and additional 5 to 10 seconds if necessary.
4. Quickly remove the waffle from the WaffleCone Express(tm) onto a clean cloth towel. If the waffle is too hot to handle with your bare hands, use the cloth to help lift and roll the waffle around the cone form. Hold the cone a few seconds to set its shape then place on a wire rack to cool.

Fun. It's easy to use and everybody loves it. It makes having an ice-cream treat into an event. It takes about 2 1/2 minutes to make each cone, so everybody can gather and participate while the house fills up with fantastic smells. Rolling cones is easy and even the failures elicits laughs (and taste great). I've used the Chef's Choice mix and the recipes - all good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great appliance, fun for kids and adults, January 9, 2007

This appliance does a great job once you get the heat setting and timing "calibrated" for the type waffle cone you like best. It heats quickly, takes less than two minutes per cone to bake and shape and is very easy to clean. It stores upright to save cabinet space as well. Having a rack to allow the cones to maintain their shape while they cool is helpful, but not totally necessary. The recipes make excellent-tasting cones. I don't use it really often, but I am well-pleased with the purchase.
