5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all bakers!!, October 25, 2004
By
I love this new Aluminum rolling pin! It is fast approaching my favorite time of year and I am gearing up for tons of baking ( I give away baked goodies to our neighbors during the holiday season--which in my mind starts in October!!) I love the weight of this one--just throw it in the fridge for about 20 minutes ( I did it while I was making the dough) and it works great--I was making molasses cookies and the dough didn't stick at all! I am a sucker for red---so I also LOVE the color!

5.0 out of 5 stars great rolling pin, November 11, 2005

(REAL NAME)
After years if using a handled rolling pin I finally decided to get one that suits my rolling style. The handles on my old pin were wasted space and my old pin's rolling surface wasn't as wide as I wanted. So, I decided to look for a French pin or straight bakers pin. When I saw this one my little brain immediately said 'A HAH!!! This can be chilled!' And as those of us who frequently make pie dough, the colder the better for a flakey crust.

When this pin arrived I had to try it. While the pin was chilling I made up a single crust dough. It rolled out smoothly and evenly, no sticking, no tearing. Nice balance and weight to this pin. Took a few minutes to get used to how this pin handles, I justed pushed it back and forth, no gripping the ends. The only thing I think I'd like better is a couple more inches of surface area, but compared how this pin performed, no big deal. Still gives me more rolling surface than my old pin. (If you need lots of surface area, get a straight bakers pin.)

It also comes with a little knit sock to store it in to protect the enamel finish. I would recommend wrapping it in additional protection, kitchen drawers can be wicked places for smooth surfaces. I used an old piece of thin fabric. It fits nicely along the side of my drawer and takes up less space than my old pin. (I almost missed the little sock, it was stuck in the corner of the shipping box.)

All in all, a well made piece of kitchen gear. And .. the crust baked up tender and flakey.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent for making cannoli, or any dough that is better chilled, April 9, 2006
By
I purchased this product on a whim and I love it.

This chilled rolling pin made it so much easier to roll out very thin cannoli dough. Using this rolling pin I was also able to turn out a very tender and flaky tart crust. It works well with sugar cookie dough too. I use this rolling pin when I have a pastry product that calls for ice water or cold butter in the recipe.

I place my rolling pin in the freezer while I mix the dough, sooner if I plan my baking in advance. If you have any difficulty with the pin being too cold to comfortably work with I found that by using just my palms and keeping a warm towel nearby really helped.

This product is very easy to clean. A little soapy water and quick swipe and it is ready for use again.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone that regularly works with pastry dough.

I bought this for my personal useage and it work incredible well on any pastry.I strongly recommend to those people who got warm hands like me!! Just throw it in the fridge for about 20 minutes. You won't need any extra flour to roll out your dough. It won't stick on your pastry dough or melt the butter. It make your working aera or kitchen super easy to clean.By the way,its weight is perfact for me. It won't tense my muscle after a whole day of work.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Great Pin!, March 27, 2008

After suddenly realizing I hated my old ball-bearing pin - I was avoiding making pies because rolling the dough was such a hassle - I decided to try this one. I love it!

As other have said, it can be pre-chilled, which is a huge help in the hot and humid South. The finish, besides looking good, is slick and shiny so not much sticks to it.

Mostly, though, I love how easy rolling dough is with this pin, and how much more comfortable this one is to use. The tapers at the ends keep my fingers out of the dough better than my old one with handles did, and there's much less hand fatigue. I'd give this ten stars if I could!

This review is from: Chef's Delight 18-Inch Solid Aluminum French Rolling Pin, Red (Kitchen)
Love this rolling pin - perfect for homemade noodles and pastry. It's nice and heavy, and I like that it can be chilled. Easy clean-up too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't beat a rolling pin that gets cold!, November 9, 2006
I don't make piecrust that often, but when I do, I want the best tools for it. This rolling pin is AMAZING! One of the common mistakes making a pie crust is to let it warm up...so why not use an ice-cold pin?! And I pity the burgler that comes in if I'm within arm's distance of this pin....;p

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid, Quality Utensil!, November 9, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a solid quality utensil for your kitchen. I must say, I lucked out and purchased this during a Friday Sale for $[...]. I probably would have hesitated had I not gotten such a great price because I rarely use a rolling pin, but this was just too good a bargain to pass up. If you use a rolling pin frequently, then you can't go wrong with this one - even if you have to pay the higher price. If you're only an occasional user, hold out for the next sale.
