Works great at first,

We got this as a present and it worked great at first. Loved all the different modes (beef, lamb, chicken, etc.) but after about a year, the display started to go. We could still read the temperature but the incremental bars didn't show and it was difficult to see which mode we were in. We are looking for a new thermometer for the grill. If you buy this, you'll be happy for a while but get ready for dissapointment.

Received this as a gift, and wasn't sure I'd ever use it. Once I used the first time, I was hooked. It will allow you to see the exact internal temperature of the meat you're cooking, plus allow you to select the type of meat (beef, pork, chicken, etc). The display changes colors along with the LCD gauge to let you know how close your meat is to being "done". I especially like this feature for pork and chicken, where internal temperatures are important in keeping your food safe to eat.

i bought this thermometer because i am new to grilling and have a hard time knowing when meat is done. It worked fine the first time when I cooked burgers. Read 160 degrees and the burgers were good. The second time i used it to cook pork steaks. I went by the time in the recipe and used the thermometer when they were almost done after about 20 minutes. The thermometer read 43 degrees. I left it in for several minutes waiting for it to go up. It went up to 50 degrees. I cut into the pork and it was done about medium well. I thought this was just a fluke. Tonight I cooked an $18.00 Porter House steak. After 4 minutes on each side, high heat, I checked the steak with the thermometer. It read 43 degrees. I left the thermometer in for a minute, it read 50 degrees. I pulled the steak off. When i cut into it it was a perfect medium rare. If I could rate this lower than one star I would. It is pure JUNK.CHEF'S FORK with THERMOMETER
