Cruet Magnifique,
By
This review is from: Chef's Planet 5-Ounce Glass Cruet (Kitchen)
These elegantly designed bottles are ideal for dinner table use. What I like best is that they do not leak like my previous ones. That's because the stopper end is made of ground glass. I worked in a research laboratory for many years and the reagent bottles we use make use of this design whenever a tight seal is needed. There is a small opening in the glass stopper that allows air into the bottle but the contents of the bottle will not come out of this opening during use.

Stopper must be held while pouring,

This review is from: Chef's Planet 8-Ounce Glass Cruet (Kitchen)
We've lost maybe 4 stoppers for this because we forgot to hold the spout while pouring. If this happens, the spout falls down and breaks. :(.
I lost one more because the bottle slipped out of my hands. After that, I went to a stainless steel cruet. RSVP Endurance Oil Decanter Other than that, it has some really nice design features: 1) excellent oil pouring control. I've used it for olive oil and peanut oil. 2) No spill -- the last bit of oil does not spill down the side. Oil has a tendency to stick along the underside of the spout of a cruet. The design of this model causes the oil to stick along the underside and fall back into the container. Bad design features: 1) The aforementioned stopper needing to be held while pouring or it falls and breaks. 2) Glass construction. 3) It isn't air tight and there is no spout cover. I never had an issue with oil going bad in this but I thought I'd mention it. EDIT 6/19/2010 - added product link to the stainless steel cruet I bought as a replacement.

Glass Cruet,

Product was just the right size - only problem is the opening in the spout is so small that it barely drips the oil or vinegar out - I wanted it to make salad dressing - but there is no way an herb will pass thru this spout - Only good for flavored vinegar - with so spices - would not purchase again - and knowing what I know now would not have purchased it it the first place

I just received a pair of these today, and I am very pleasantly surprised by the ease of use. They are designed to allow you to very precisely control the amount of oil dispensed, and you can do it with one hand. You simply place your fingertip on the removable spout and grasp the flask by the neck. This keeps the spout securely in place and makes it very easy to use.
The size is also just right for my usage - holding enough to last me a week or so between refills.

Size is smaller than it looks in the photo, but 8oz is 8oz, so that's my problem. The glass was a bit thin, but the shape is very stable and would never tip over. Nice simple shape - free from country flowers or other specific decorations.

A Little Fragile,
By CLTKiter (Charlotte, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chef's Planet 8-Ounce Glass Cruet (Kitchen)
I bought this cruet after reading all the reviews about its fragility. When it came, the product indeed came broken. However, Amazon replaced it with no issues. Now that I've received the replacement and used it for a while, I must say that it's extremely good to use. It's not fragile like thin glass, it's fragile more like a "chemistry" beaker. As a matter of fact, it looks like it was made by a company who makes scientific equipment.
When pouring the oil (we use it for olive oil), it pours very easily, and any small amount left on the spout doesn't drip; it runs back into the decanter. So no mess at all. Both my wife and I love it. And we're pleased that we bought the 8 oz one -- the larger of the two sizes. Great product!

This cruet drizzles just the right amount of olive oil on salads and on meat that I'm about to put on a hot grill. The base is fairly large, but it keeps you from tipping it over.

Perfect design, perfect implementation,

I just got this in my hands and am absolutely delighted with it.
It's a gem. It fits perfectly in my palm. It's elegant and minimalist. Every part it needs to function is there, and nothing else. No fuss, no muss. It's just big enough to handle comfortably, and no bigger. The material is simple unpretentious high quality. Same stuff as a lab beaker. Comments of not being large enough to store oil don't make sense. Your oil comes from the store in it's own storage bottle or can, right? Likewise, fears and worries of being too thin are pointless. It's glass. If you drop it, it will break. You screwed up. Buy a new one. The cost is modest.

Practical Poetry makes this cruet a perfect gift,

First, get one of these beautiful cruets for yourself, then check your gift list. It's a winner, and everyone who has seen it wants one, too! In my well-supplied kitchen, this is my treasured toy of the moment and earned an instant, permanent place on the kitchen counter. It is beautiful, balanced and truly dripless. The fine design, reminiscent of a perfume bottle, allows very controlled dispensing for the perfect olive oil drizzle without overpouring. The globe fits in the palm of your hand and the top does not fall out when held upside down. This leaves your other hand free. It is indispensible in general and appreciated when I am baking bread and need a few quick drops of oil with messy hands. It is beautiful enough to be art and practical enough for solid every day use. The design is brilliant. I find it helpful to reduce butter use even further to enjoy olive oil drizzled on grilled bread.

This cruet is perfect for drizzling just the right amount of balsamic vinegar over a salad. Not too much, not too little.
I was previously disappointed by a cheap cruet purchased from a high-end gourmet food store. It leaked, badly and made a mess. This little unit is perfect. It's a few dollars more, but well worth it. Just the right amount of vinegar, every time. I expect this to last me 15 years. Neat, clean, visually appealing; exactly what I wanted. I'd recommend it to anyone. |
