Review

Chelsea's Tree is a simply delightful book! Wonderful for younger children. Complete with a corded handle for easy carrying. Children often experience anguish and confusion when two families are merged into one. FamilyFusion.com Editor Kim Peterson --Kim Peterson, Editor of FamilyFusion.com

It is very important that children achieve a sense of self and relatedness. This book does this in a caring manner. Lionel Bryan, M.D., Psychiatrist, Advisory Board of Inspiration Publications Both children and adults will enjoy reading Chelsea's Tree and using the activities in drawing closer as a family. --Rev. J. Alexander M. Div., M.S., Lamplighter May 2001

Children often experience anguish and confusion when two families are merged into one. Marcy McCann's Chelsea's Tree is a great way to help children cope with their new situation. The story revolves around a little girl who explores the differences and benefits of her new family. The hardcover book, aimed at children ages 4 to 8, also includes maps and stickers to show where relatives live, a photo album section, a glossary of family relationships and a list of resources. --Your Stepfamily Magazine August 2002

2.0 out of 5 stars You only meet the mother and her family, Daddy is conspicuously absent, May 24, 2010

Is it too much to ask that books for kids about divorce present a decent view of BOTH parents, or, at the least, do not malign or ignore that father? In this book, the girl is at her mom's house, meets with her mom's mother (her grandmother) and we NEVER meet her father or his family. It would have been so easy to do half the tree with one family and then take the book to the other house and finish it there. What's so wrong with portraying dad in the book? I am returning this.

I was incredibly impressed with this book. The story relevant to todays blended families and celebrates all who come in to our lives that create our family grown from Love.

This book is multi functional and interactive. Includes maps with stickers so the child can see where all their loved ones live. This also opens up the child's eyes to see how many in the world love and care for them. This book also has an area to put pictures of families and loved ones.
All with a handle to carry around!

This is a worthwhile book and gift.
My daughter will enjoy this book for many years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!, November 15, 2002
This review is from: Chelsea's Tree a story for Step Children and stepkids (Spiral-bound)
As the mother of 6 children, which include "his, mine, ours and adopted", in a military family where growing up around our extended family wasn't possible, I wish this book had been available when my children were small. It's a warm, witty and wonderful way to explain extended and blended families to children. It also has an ingenious handle and space for the child to include within the pages favorite photos and small mementos to carry around, then they can pull it out and review the contents whenever they wish. To top all that off, it has a map and stickers so the child, with an adult's help, can put a sticker on each place in the world where someone lives who loves them. I LOVE the idea and the love that clearly shows through the writing. I would highly recommend this book to anyone!
