2.0 out of 5 stars You only meet the mother and her family, Daddy is conspicuously absent
Is it too much to ask that books for kids about divorce present a decent view of BOTH parents, or, at the least, do not malign or ignore that father? In this book, the girl is at her mom's house, meets with her mom's mother (her grandmother) and we NEVER meet her father or his family. Is it too much to ask that books for kids about divorce present a decent view of BOTH parents, or, at the least, do not malign or ignore that father? In this book, the girl is at her mom's house, meets with her mom's mother (her grandmother) and we NEVER meet her father or his family. It would have been so easy to do half the tree with one family and then take the book to the other house and finish it there. What's so wrong with portraying dad in the book? I am returning this.

All with a handle to carry around!

This is a worthwhile book and gift.
My daughter will enjoy this book for many years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!, November 15, 2002
This review is from: Chelsea's Tree a story for Step Children and stepkids (Spiral-bound)
As the mother of 6 children, which include "his, mine, ours and adopted", in a military family where growing up around our extended family wasn't possible, I wish this book had been available when my children were small. It's a warm, witty and wonderful way to explain extended and blended families to children. It also has an ingenious handle and space for the child to include within the pages favorite photos and small mementos to carry around, then they can pull it out and review the contents whenever they wish. To top all that off, it has a map and stickers so the child, with an adult's help, can put a sticker on each place in the world where someone lives who loves them. I LOVE the idea and the love that clearly shows through the writing. I would highly recommend this book to anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars A SENSE OF BELONGING, October 26, 2010
This review is from: Chelsea's Tree a story for Step Children and stepkids (Spiral-bound)
I think this book and its carry around cover might be just the thing under some child' Christmas tree.
We all need a sense of belonging... and for the step child or a child torn in todays modern life styles this book is an answer.
I speak from the back ground of Elementary School teacher, mother and grandmother..Life happens
and an innocent child may have no way of "belonging"
This book allows the child and other members of the combined families to come together as one ..a family a heritage and love,
thank you Marcy McCann

5.0 out of 5 stars Elegant, charming book that opens a door, September 27, 2010

What a delightful way to present the concept of a blended family. Each page led to a point from which a loving conversation could take place. I remember my own confusion about what made someone a cousin or an uncle or aunt. This book helps solve the mystery.

The book is beaufiully packaged which gives it great value as a gift. It has inserts where the child reader's actual family tree can be posted, explained and expanded. The book is a celebration of families with lots of familiy tree limbs.

What a delightful and unique offering that can lead to understanding and the opening of a door sometimes difficult to access.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chelsea's Tree is a treasure!, December 21, 2009
This review is from: Chelsea's Tree a story for Step Children and stepkids (Spiral-bound)
Chelsea's Tree is a very unique idea to teach children all about families and what makes up a family, with families being blended and extended now days, it helps everyone keep track of who's who. It's a fun and great idea where the parents can sit down with their children to pass along their own family tree. In the back of the book, there is a place where the reader can add family photos to start a record of the relatives in their own family. Chelsea's Tree a treasure and a keepsake that every family should have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chelsea's tree, April 1, 2008
This review is from: Chelsea's Tree a story for Step Children and stepkids (Spiral-bound)
Chelsea's Tree is a lovely and charming resource for parents, grandparents and other members of blended families. Children love to take an "action-oriented" approach to discussing their experiences and this is the perfect tool for that purpose. Also, as a retired marriage and family therapist, I think this little book would be very helpful in a theraputic situation to allow children to explore their feelings in a positive, non-judgmental context. The sticker feature that allows a child to build his or her own blended family tree is a fun activity for the whole family, adults and children alike.

I am so thrilled to recommend a most heart warming and timely book called Chelsea's Tree by Marcy McCann. This is a delightful book that I really appreciate and can't wait to share with all my "collected" grandchildren. When my husband and I married, we blended adult children and their children of various relationships and marriages. This powerful way of explaining the various pieces of the family puzzle is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!! Kudos to Marcy McCann for being so creative!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeping family close, April 30, 2008
This review is from: Chelsea's Tree a story for Step Children and stepkids (Spiral-bound)
Chelsea's Tree is filled with beautiful illustrations and relevant language and includes maps of both the United States and the world. Having raised three children in a military family, I wish we would have had something like this to help our children trace our families, my children's own travels and the many stations we called home. The many pages for pictures would help a child keep his memories close by at all times and the clever handle makes that especially easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Review of Chelsea's Tree, April 30, 2008
This review is from: Chelsea's Tree a story for Step Children and stepkids (Spiral-bound)
Chelsea's Tree The presentation of this book is beautiful. It is definitely not a book to leave hidden on a book shelf. Although the story is geared toward children of blended families it is appropriate for all children with large families. The second portion of the book is a photo album that provides a place for family photos. Stickers are provided with names of the family relationships. This is a wonderful keepsake book for children.
