Its job is to dissolve fuel residue and varnish from inside the carb passages.

This stuff works!

If you have a number of small engines and motorcycles/atv's I would recommend the 5 gal pail.
It cleans all types of contaminates/deposits from carbs, leave soak overnight or leave in for 10min to an hour then pressure wash and it will clean the carb just as well.

My only complaint is the pail lid. Once you pry it off it allows vapors to leak out causing a sweet smell in the garage and with that allows the product to evaporate. Another issue is that if the pail is knocked over its a pain to clean up, waist a lot of money and not to mention the stuff isn't the healthiest to breath in. That's why I recommend the Locking lid - Vestil LID-STL-LL Steel Lever Lock Pail Lid, for 5 gallon, Black It costs about $20 with shipping but worth the investment as your already spending a fair amount of money on the Chem-Dip.

My complaint is with the lid not the product so the product gets the five stars it deserves.

This parts dip is getting hard to find but is worth the trouble. It cleans up carburetors, valve and engine covers, bolts, and the like in short order. Be sure to wear gloves because the smell of this stuff on hands is pervasive and wears off slowly. Don't put rubber stuff in the dip because it will swell up. No more free basket, you have to buy separately, I just use the one I have from before. If you scrape off excess grime from parts the dip will last longer. Use in a ventilated area.

I HAVE USED BERRYMANS PARTS CLEANER FOR 20 YEARS.I BUY IT BECAUSE ITS THE BEST CLEANER ON THE MARKET.IT SEEMS TO WORK BETTER AFTER THE FIRST TWO OR THREE CARBURETORS.I ALWAYS BUY THE 5 GALLON PAIL TO USE THE BASKET.AN OVERNIGHT SOAK WILL DO THE BEST JOB.

Works reasonably well. Not as well as it did before environmental regulations made them remove some chemicals. It has the same nasty smell as it's had for years. Probably the best chemical parts cleaner available, however. Pretty pricy. It is a hazardous material and should be handled as such. My recommendation is that you wear 'viton' chemical resistant gloves to keep the stink off of your hands and, for sure, wear safety glasses.

This is the only stuff that will do when rebuilding a carburetor.
I would recomend getting a re-sealable lid so the stuff does not evaporate.
Make sure it has a good seal and make sure you do not leave it on concrete.
I made a plywood base to sit it on top of when not in use.
Smells strong. and do not get it on your hands, make sure you wear some good nitrile gloves.

Better get it before you won't be able to buy it....Already banned in Europe for consumers...

In 1983, in California, I bought a five gallon can of this stuff for $30 and change at the Price Club (now COSTCO.) Back then, it included the dip basket.

I recalled that this was the best stuff available fro cleaning dirty oil and carbon soaked auto parts. This stuff would take everything off, including ALL paint.

Since then, I've not needed to clean auto parts that required a five gallon can. For years, I bought the 3/4 gallon cans in the gallon pain can size Most local auto parts stores carry the GUNK brand. It worked OK, but NOT as good as the Berryman ChemDip.

For years I used alternative parts cleaners using mineral spirits and ECO water based cleaners. Every time I used them, I longed for the Berryman ChemDip that I used to know.

I finally began searching for the Berryman 5 gallon can of ChemDip. Fortunately I found that it was offered by Amazon and just one local auto parts store chain. It is $110 plus sales tax. So, I went out an grabbed it.

Maybe NOT the light yellow color that I remember, but it works almost just as well over a longer period of time.

As MSDS sheets are now available on line, I found that the main ingredient is methylene chloride or chloromethane. And, it has been banned for sale to consumers in Europe.

It is the main component of paint removers and strippers.

I've looked all over for below ground anti-insect wood treatments and found that no hardware of home center carries or sell sells them to consumers.

No more Freon 12, either.

I will most likely happen to this stuff, too.

On that account, I pan to buy another can in the next three months/
