This is the way to get a truly wonderful cup of coffee. Most auto drip makers don't even come close to the perfect temperature of 195-202 degrees to extract the full flavor of the beans. By using the Chemex and water straight off the boil from the tea kettle I and not only obtain the correct temperature, I can also make sure that all the grinds are being equally saturated, something that auto drip electric coffee makers also fall short of. It takes up no counter space, looks like modern art in glass form, and the handle is so much better than their other models that require trying to grip the wooden collar. The handle stays cool to the touch.

This coffee maker is awesome. The quality is wonderfull and well thought out.
1. The size is perfect for a single person. 2. The pour spout works like no other, no drips or runs. 3. The coffee is actually very good with low bitterness. 4. Cleanup is a snap. 5. Looks great and takes up very little space. All in all I really like this coffee maker and would highly recommend to anyone, just be sure to buy the Chemex filters and don't try to use generic ones. And for the price, it's a good bargain.

Love my Chemex!,

Just want to add my $.02 that this is a great product. The Chemex filters took me a few minutes to figure out as they require folding before you can use them. It's very easy once you figure it out. You just need one of those "Oh!" moments! It makes excellent coffee, but really it doesn't do anything. It basically removes itself from the equation so your coffee is really based on the beans you use, how much coffee, how hot your water is, etc. etc. The best parts for me are that it takes up very little space and is very easy to clean. I was always disgusted with how dirty the typical drip machine would be after 6-months to a year of regular use. Not so with the Chemex. You do have to boil your own water, but as I had a stove top kettle that I already use for hot tea, it was no problem. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better coffee maker for under $30.

The new Chemex with handle is superb.,

I agree with everything the former reviewer stated in connection with this Chemex. I only wish that Amazon also carried the larger size--I believe it is 3 to 6 cups, which is even better for the morning coffee I make for myself.
And, as the former reviewer noted, it is a beautiful shape--an esthetic pleaure.

Chemex FTW - With Some Advice,

This Chemex was purchased to replaced a French Press, which I adore, but I grew tired of picking grounds out of my coffee. Like other reviewers here I too had a Keurig which I absolutely hated because it didn't work more than it did. Anyhow, when I opened the package I was a little intimidated because I had watched around 50 videos about how to prepare coffee with a Chemex and to be honest, it looked really complicated. Now that I've made coffee a few dozen times and I really like my Chemex I'll share what I learned. The glass handled Chemex truly is great. I've seen lots (and lots) of video of people struggling to maneuver the Chemex with the leather collar and it's not pretty. The handle is functional and does not get hot and the whole thing is washable. The Chemex filters are really a must. I purchased these Chemex Coffee Filter Fits Most Conical Filter Coffeemakers - 100 Bonded Oxygen Cleansed Prefolded Filters on the recommendation of another Amazon customer and they work beautifully. Many websites and blogs state that they use other store brand filters that work just the same, but eventually they would state that they use two filters at a time or that they have filters break on a regular basis. Just buy the Chemex filters! As for directions, seriously, follow the directions on the packing insert. Chemex knows what they're talking about! After watching all those videos filled with pretentious coffee snobs I simply followed the directions on the Chemex packaging and I got a really good cup of coffee. There was no fancy water pouring technique, no crazy coffee grinding (I use Douwe Egberts) and no insane coffee swirling to get oxygen in. I put coffee in, water on top, and let it drip. The whole process took maybe 40 seconds. I watched a YouTube video of a guy who took NINE minutes to make one cup of coffee! This is not complicated and it produces a really nice cup. It's quick and the clean up takes less than 60 seconds. Cheers!

The coffee is awesome. Practically everyone who comes over comments on how good it is. The conical section at the top is a bit small and requires constant watching/pouring for several minutes.. I'd order the bigger carafe, even if you want to make only 2-3 cups.

Chemex Makes My Day,
By

The folks at Chemex have achieved the classic less is more equation to making a great cup of coffee. As the only coffee drinker in my household, the lack of time for preparing and brewing coffee, plus the dreaded cleanup sent me out to coffee houses for overly expensive and sometimes inferior cups of coffee. My wife found the perfect solution in getting this coffee system for me at Christmas this year. This takes just a minute to set up and even less to clean once you've brewed an excellent cup of coffee. Once you get the right equation of coffee to hot water, you're all set. The filters are easy to fold and keep the coffee tasting great. I can't see ever using anything else

Great coffee; high cost,

Chemex coffee makers produce great coffee. I've used the 40-ounce version of this maker for a year, and came to Amazon to find a replacement after I cracked the rim. Unfortunately Amazon doesn't carry the 40-ounce model.
Regarding cost: Amazon charges $34.99 for the 3-cup model (Model CM-1GH), and shows a list price of $35. However, on Chemex's own web site, the same model, CM-1GH, is available for the true list price of $31.90.

Call me insane ...,

Einstein said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. If that is the case, it is my insanity that led me to purchase this. And my sanity is grateful!
I was going three times a week to an artisanal coffee shop that brews their coffee with this equipment. Not ONCE have the baristas acknowledged me as a regular. In addition, when I ask for cream, they refuse because I am ruining the flavor of their artisanal coffees. Now, I worked as a barista for an Italian former steelworker, and I worked with five Italian tailors in another job. In addition, my father was a French-trained chef, and I am one of those people who spends $4 for a cup of black coffee in this establishment. So, treating me condescendingly and as if you don't know me even though I spend twelve bucks or more a week, is ridiculous. The fact that I have been doing this for six months, is even more ridiculous! So, with the help of Amazon reviewers and YouTube, which has great videos on using this and the Hario V60 (which I also ordered because I wanted to try both), I broke the cycle of insanity. A Chemex Classic Series Glass Coffeemaker, 3 cup capacitynow make the easiest, most delicious cup of coffee ever!

I make one mug of coffee at the office with this. It takes time - 4'45" to heat the water in the microwave, and maybe about the same to slowly pour the water through the grounds. Gives me a break to stand up, move around, usually visit with someone in the hall, but mainly it rewards me with a terrific tasting cup of coffee. Clean, not bitter, full of flavor - it's just great the way it makes the most of your bean. I got the glass handle to help dry it with paper towels after making coffee and rinsing - then back on the shelf in the office. I use a bigger one at home when I'm not in a hurry and got the wood handle for it because it looks good. You are supposed to use their filters, which I do, a box of 100 lasts a long time.
