5.0 out of 5 stars Best All in One Chlorine Product on Market
I've had an in ground for almost 20 years. During that time I've had a couple auto chlorinators and gone through a number of name brand and off brand chlorine products. HTH is consistently the best product I've ever used. I use the HTH shock treatment weekly, no algecide and one 3" "3 in 1" pucks in the skimmer about every other day. I also utilize the granular HTH...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not effective
I did not find these chlorine tablets effective at all. They left my pool cloudy, and I also found I had to add a ton of tablets to get my levels up. I will not purchase this again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mucks up your pool, not enough chlorine, July 15, 2010
This review is from: Arch Chemical 16.3Lb 3/1 Chlor Tablet 28207 Non-Stabilized Dry Chlorine
I bought these thinking it would be great to have an additive to help prevent skin drying out. It does make the water feel "softer" but also very cloudy and does not seem to have enough chlorine to maintain adequate levels in the water as I was never able to get my chlorine levels to register above .5 no mater how many I put in my skimmer. It also leaves a residue on your skin and pool. Maybe they were intended to be a supplement to a straight chlorine, but the instructions are so vague it's hard to tell. I switched to a straight chlorine tablet and have had no problem maintaining proper chlorine levels. I just hope the residual cloudiness from these 3-1 tablets will go away now.

I also utilize the granular HTH chlorine product on occasion, especially after heavy use. Great thing about the powder and pucks is that they keep your filter sand clean, I pour the granular directly into the skimmer as well. My water is crystal clear, conditioned and soft on the skin and almost has thicker, softer feel to it. I had cloudy water before using the product and merely used twice the dose for a couple days (2 pucks) for 20,000 gallons. (Instructions are 1 puck per 6,000 to start, 1 per 18,000 sustain.) If you have a problem with cloudiness I'd suggest running the filter more, I have a lot of usage, a high chance of alge due to constant sun and tree fall out and run my filter almost none stop during July/August. It probably cost me a bit more than off brands but I find their effectiveness inconsistent and "dirty" - that is I vacuum far more often on other products than HTH. The lack of a need for algecide is a huge plus to me as well - I've never had good luck with algecides and find their use to require a day or two to stabilize - not so with the HTH. Once balanced and running clear maintenance is a snap. PH and total akalinity are always within spec as well. Highly recommend taking the effort to get your pool up to spec with HTH, maintenance and quality is a breeze.
