Book Description

November 29, 1996 0471055905 978-0471055907 1
The aim of this contemporary textbook is to show students that thermodynamics is a useful tool, not just a series of theoretical exercises. Written in a conversational style, the text presents the second law in a totally new manner--there is no reliance on statistical arguments; instead it is developed as a natural consequence of physical experience. Students are not required to write complex, iterative computer programs to solve phase equilibrium problems--techniques are presented which enable use of readily available math packages. The book also explores electrochemical systems such as batteries and fuel cells. Included in the extensive amount of examples are those which demonstrate the use of thermodynamics in practical design situations.

1.0 out of 5 stars Confusing and full of errors, February 21, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics: An Introduction to Thermodynamics for Undergraduate Engineering Students (Paperback)
I used this book as an undergrad and it was terrible. First, there must have been over 100 errors in the book. Second, the explainations of complicated principles were often incomplete. Third, the software that came with it was Fortran code that had to be compiled - if you don't have the write math libraries they won't work at all. If you are looking for a good chemical engineering thermo book, try Smith, Van Hess, and Abbott.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dynamic Thermodynamics, August 2, 2010
This review is from: Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics: An Introduction to Thermodynamics for Undergraduate Engineering Students (Paperback)
Makes Thermo easier to understand if you're an undergrad in Chem Eng...easier, not easy. Romantic to dedicate it to his sweetheart but maybe she would rather have a jeep.

5.0 out of 5 stars good text, April 12, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics: An Introduction to Thermodynamics for Undergraduate Engineering Students (Paperback)
We just used this book in Chem Eng Thermo, and it explains things pretty well. I had Chem Thermo before, and that was mostly theory. The applications (machines, engines, etc) are the big thing in this book. It might help that I had Chem Thermo before. There are lots of good examples all worked out.
