This review is from: The Chemistry of the Actinide and Transactinide Elements (5 Volume Set) (v. 1-5) (Hardcover)
This review is for volume 3 only, from someone who does theoretical
work on actinide atoms. The articles (9-18)in this volume are comprehensive, well written&referenced, modern (2006),and can bring the reader to a good understanding of the progress in the field, and what problems remain. Volume 3 includes chapters on Curium through Lawrencium,Transactinide and Future Elements, but for me,the meat of the volume are the remaining chapters-Summary and Comparison of Properties of the Actinide and and Transactinide elements,Spectrum and Structure of the Atoms, Electronic Structure of Actinide Molecules, and Optical Spectra and Electronic Structure of Actinide Solids. While the 5 volume set is expensive for the individual, separate volumes sometimes become available. If you're contemplating working on/understanding the actinides, you need to have access (perhaps through a research library) to the relevant volumes in this series. |
