4.0 out of 5 stars Warning
Beware! This edition of the book does NOT come packaged with the CD-ROM. I don't know why Amazon doesn't specify this (somebody else's problem, no doubt). It's a great book. Just know what you're getting for the money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Chemistry Problems
I was disappointed to find the book I ordered Chemistry: The Central Science: Solutions to Red Exercises was for the 8th edition of the text. My text is a 9th edition and the problems don't match!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super introduction, March 19, 2006

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
First, make sure if you buy it used, it is explicitly stated that the CD-ROM is included. I LOVE this book. I am a homeschooling mother with a M.S. in chemistry. My daughter is gaining excellent comprehension. The text does a very good job of integrating concepts throughout the chapters. I found the ninth edition (which some of my homeschool students have) to be essentially the same with the aggravation of slight changes in the homework sets (to make college students buy expensive new books each year!)Solutions manuals are obtainable used, as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best solutions manual ever, October 26, 1999
By A Customer
This is a true solutions manual. This manual will show the student how to work all of the problems in the book. For the first time in my college life I can do my homework without that empty feeling in my stomach that I might be doing it wrong. If you have the McMurray Chemistry book and your teacher doesnt want you to call them at 11:00pm when you cant figure out a problem, this book is a must!

4.0 out of 5 stars The best chemistry book for those who hate chemistry!, November 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sm Chemistry S/M (Paperback)
After four years of college, I could no longer run from chemistry. After numerous drops from the class, I finally found a chemistry book which is easy to understand. This book has every example problem you could think of. Every chapter gives you a good introduction, then cuts strait to the points every novice chemistry student should know to pass a general college level class. I do suggest a run through of chemistry in high school before stepping up to this book. I would have liked to have seen a book accompany the text which shows the drawn out ways to answer the review questions at the end of every chapter. Other than that this book is very down to earth and easy to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST CHEMISTRY TEXTS, June 4, 1999
By A Customer
Wow. Very clear and readable. This book is almost as good as McMurry's other title, "Organic Chemistry 4th ed." which is more readable and organized in my opinion. I think McMurry can improve this title, "Chemistry," to such levels in coming editions.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent, straightforward approach to chemistry, June 4, 2004
By
A Guy (California, CA USA) - See all my reviews
Ignore the 2 star review above. The book is perfect for anyone preparing for the AP chemistry exam, and even for those who just want an in depth understanding of it. As far as there being a "corrected version of the book": LMAO. Give me a break, books are updated but rarely corrected. They are put together by reliable scholars who major in the field, I don't see any errors in the book. A student trying to compete with several scientists is just dumb, they obviously don't have the common intellect to understand the book. I'm sorry, but that review just shocked me because of it's inaccuracy. The book is wonderful and I reccommend it to all. :)
