Book Description

Chemistry, Second Edition, by Julia Burdge has been created to bridge the gap in the McGraw-Hill general chemistry offerings. This textbook offers a clear writing style written with the students in mind. Julia uses her background of teaching hundreds of general chemistry students per year and creates content to offer more detailed explanation on areas where she knows they have problems.

Sitting down with the art house, Julia Burdge worked with the artist to create the style and major art pieces in her text. Out of these discussions, came the creation of the Visualizing Art two-page spreads which detail a process for the students and provide them with the answer to "What is the Point?" Due the success of the art with students, this offering has been doubled in the second edition.

With outstanding art, a consistent problem-solving approach, interesting applications woven throughout the chapters, and a wide range of end-of-chapter problems, this is a great second edition text.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, better than my other chem books!, February 6, 2011
This review is from: Chemistry (Hardcover)
I had this textbook from another university but dropped out to go to another university so I really never had the chance to use it in the classroom. However, my current university uses the book Chemistry by another author. I can tell you, this book saved me a lot! Chemistry by Julia has covered the courses of General Chemistry I and General Chemistry II down to the very core. I could not understand the other book almost every chapter so I just open this one and read about the subject. This book for me is a life saver and it is quite easy to understand. Thank you Julia Burdge!

3.0 out of 5 stars Expensive and needs more example problems., February 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chemistry (Hardcover)
The main reasons why I rated this book 3 stars out of 5 is that it needs more example problems and it is really expensive. It has lots of practice problems but it needs those example problems that go through the problem one step at a time showing the reader the exact ways to do the problem. Also, this book is really expensive. I really wish that it was less pricey. Otherwise, the book has been great! It has been a huge help to me in General Chemistry and I have really enjoyed reading it for the most part. I really like the fact that the book has a hard cover, which has really kept it in nice condition. I also got it in the mail really quickly with Amazon's two day shipping which was really nice. Overall, the book has been good for me except that I would have like some more examples.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Quality, January 10, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chemistry (Hardcover)
The book was in good condition when I received it. No highlighter marks inside or anything. I can tell the book was used before me but that didn't bother me at all. For the price it was a great investment and I will be able to use it in more than one of my Chemistry courses. I am highly satisfied.
