5.0 out of 5 stars Better than most other Textbooks for Gen Chem
I borrowed this book from the library after scanning so many other books. This was the only book that really made sense to me. The explanation of Quantum Mechanics and Electronic Configuration was the best I have read. Wwe were using the Central Science and it was horrible confusing compared to this one.

I loved reading this book. It was pleasant.

1.0 out of 5 stars horrid textbook
This textbook did a horrible job of explaining things- in particular i struggled with hybridized electron orbitals, and everything that had to do with electrons. 1.0 out of 5 stars horrid textbook, December 15, 2010

This textbook did a horrible job of explaining things- in particular i struggled with hybridized electron orbitals, and everything that had to do with electrons. I got a good grade in the class, but definitely not because I learned any concepts. The first chapter in my organic chemistry book this semester (Bruice) was a general overview of so many things from general chemistry: acids and bases, bonds, electron orbitals, hybridizations and dipole moments (etc) and actually explained them in a way I was able to understand.

2.0 out of 5 stars Horrible book for a college chemistry class, September 28, 2010

I'll try to make this short and sweet. I'm an Engineering student, and only need to take two semesters of Chemistry. Lets just say that it is probably my worst subject. I have a hard enough time grasping the concepts as it is, and this book definitely does NOT help.

Concepts and problems are presented in a very confusing way, and definitions are often unclear. I give it two stars because they occasionally include some useful examples to help illustrate concepts, and of course Amazon purchasing is great. It seems like the authors assume you already have a clear understanding of the material. I know college chemistry is a tough and in-depth course, but this book takes it over the top.

If you have to buy this book for a course, I guess you are out of luck so just be prepared. If you are looking to buy this for review or something to that effect, look elsewhere!

The book was as good as new. I was very happy by the fact that it arrived early than I had expected. It was in good condition. Thank you Amazon.

Over a month and I did not receive the textbook I ordered. Although I got my money refunded through a-z guaranteed, I am behind in my Chem class since I've been waiting to receive its textbook that never came.

The textbook was in good condition and shipped quickly. I was very pleased with the entire transaction. When I need to purchase textbooks, I never considered Amazon, but this transaction changed that. Shopping on Amazon is a must for textbook purchases.

5.0 out of 5 stars Used textbook, September 18, 2010

I purchased a used textbook for my college sophomore son. I believe I ordered a product in good/very good condition. We paid for expedited shipping which was only $3 more than standard - a great deal. The book arrived within a week and cost about 1/3 of what the book cost new! It was in excellent condition too: no notes in the book, very little highlighting and the spine and cover are perfect. We'll definitely be back next year.

The return ploicy is too ridgid. We ordered the book received it fine. Then my son was told that he signed up for the wrong Chemistry class. Then we were told that we had to sell the book instead of returning the book. The return policy was for only two weeks and I think it needs to be 30 days.
