Dr.Lark has produced a wonderful book here. I bought a copy for myself and sent one to my family. 1.0 out of 5 stars Acid/Alkaline Confusion, April 13, 2006
This review is from: The Chemistry of Success: Six Secrets of Peak Performance (Hardcover)
This book promotes the theory that certain foods are considered to be "acid forming" or "alkaline forming" in the human body, and that to maintain the desirable alkaline state, you must choose your foods carefully.

Ms Lark's recommendations differ from most acid/alkaline balancing diets, however. Ms Lark seems to think that acidic foods are "acid forming" (i.e. bad), while in fact many acidic foods are actually "alkaline forming" (i.e. good), meaning they create a desirable alkaline state.

Ms lark suggests taking lemon juice or cider vinegar to correct excessive alkalinity. According to most charts on acid/alkaline forming foods, lemon juice and cider vinegar, although themselves acidic, are actually alkaline forming in the body. Thus, Ms. Lark's recommendations leave me believing that she is confused about the very system she is promoting.

This review is from: The Chemistry of Success: Six Secrets of Peak Performance (Hardcover)
Dr.Lark has produced a wonderful book here. I bought a copy for myself and sent one to my family. The concept of acid-alkali balance is of the utmost importance in recovering from any illness and sadly most Americans do not know this yet. You can take all the medicine or supplements you want or see your doctor every day, but you will not get well until you change your diet to an alkali-forming diet and make some life style changes that will improve your body's pH. Dr. Lark is most generous in taking the time to impart all this wealth of information to the reader to heal. The catch is the reader needs to take the initiative to make these life style changes. Since I am very holistic in my approcach to health I do not agree with taking some of the more chemically-oriented alkali-forming supplements listed in the book and prefer to alkalize with diet and green drink supplements instead. If you want to start on the road to good health read this book!

1.0 out of 5 stars Wrong chemistry, March 17, 2004
By
This review is from: The Chemistry of Success: Six Secrets of Peak Performance (Hardcover)
The book, as the title suggests, purports to explain some factors influencing health in terms of chemical principles, such as acid/base balance. However, there are serious errors in the book on the chemical facts that are fundamental. For example, the authors state that oxygen is beneficial because oxygen is alkaline. Outright wrong because molecular oxygen is by no means basic (a better term for ¡°alkaline¡±), or alkaline, in any sense of the acid-base definitions. In other parts of the book they claim ozone is good for health. The fact is that ozone in the breathing air is very harmful to our pulmonary system. Ozone is chemically active and generates radicals to the extent of being toxic in the low concentrations. It is almost criminal to advocate use of ozone generators in the living environment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Be careful -- make sure you are ordering the correct book!, January 26, 2006

I ordered this book because of the reviews but the reviews are for a different book! This book is basically a calendar that you use to fill in what you ate and what exercise you did and note how it made you feel. It is a companion book to The Chemistry of Success. I bought it used so I'm not out alot of money and its my own fault for not reading the editors reviews more carefully.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good info, but poorly written, March 12, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Chemistry of Success: Six Secrets of Peak Performance (Hardcover)
The information provided in this book is valuable, but the book is NOT concise. The two authors could have gotten their point across in less than 200 pages. The book "rambles on" for over 400 pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, March 29, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Chemistry of Success: Six Secrets of Peak Performance (Hardcover)
This is a must have book for anyone who has ever experienced "brain fog", fatigue, or simply feeling unwell, and been baffled as to why. This book finally puts together the hows and whys of eating certain foods and the consequences inflicted on our bodies. It is eyeopening, refreshing, solidly grounded nutritionally, and a wonderful book. This is one you will refer to again and again and everyone needs to have this in their library. Couple this with Prescription for Nutritional Healing and hopefully we will all live until we are 90!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, thorough presentation of the basics, April 25, 2000
This review is from: The Chemistry of Success: Six Secrets of Peak Performance (Hardcover)
I'm only in the first section, on acid/alkaline balance, but I can assure you that this book is about more than suppliments and papayas. The treatment of the effects of an acid-forming diet and lifesyle is spot on. The Larks are also current with their information on "good fats" and the critical fatty acids. My only complaint- that this was perhaps too much information for one volume- is being answered by the workbook now being published. A must read, especially if you have chronic health issues.

1.0 out of 5 stars If this is what it takes to be healthy..., April 18, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Chemistry of Success: Six Secrets of Peak Performance (Hardcover)
Don't let the 400+ pages fool you, there is little information in this book. It is apalling that the two authors used up this amount of space to tell you to eat meals consisting of papayas and several dozen suppliments and to buy two ozone machines for your home. Look elsewhere for tips on being healthy.

Although the content of the book is excellent, it was sold as "new" and on arrival it had writing on several pages as well as page turn downs to mark locations to the obvious previous owner.
