First, make sure if you buy it used, it is explicitly stated that the CD-ROM is included. I LOVE this book. I am a homeschooling mother with a M.S. in chemistry. My daughter is gaining excellent comprehension. The text does a very good job of integrating concepts throughout the chapters. I found the ninth edition (which some of my homeschool students have) to be essentially the same with the aggravation of slight changes in the homework sets (to make college students buy expensive new books each year!)Solutions manuals are obtainable used, as well.

This text book was the most through chemistry book I have ever used. It gives examples of how to do almost every calculation that you need for the AP exam at the end of the year, and goes through them with you step by step, then proceeding to give you problems to work out on your own, and allowing you to check your work with the selected answers in the back. An all around great resource.

It was shipped in wonderful condition and quickly.

Ignore the 2 star review above. The book is perfect for anyone preparing for the AP chemistry exam, and even for those who just want an in depth understanding of it. As far as there being a "corrected version of the book": LMAO. Give me a break, books are updated but rarely corrected. They are put together by reliable scholars who major in the field, I don't see any errors in the book. A student trying to compete with several scientists is just dumb, they obviously don't have the common intellect to understand the book. I'm sorry, but that review just shocked me because of it's inaccuracy. The book is wonderful and I reccommend it to all. :)

Well, folks, I just finished 1 year of chemistry based upon this book. It is a fine book, although the study questions occasionally have answers which are a bit vague. This is definitely NOT a book for anybody in high school, and I think that the authors often forget that, even though they themselves are PhD's, their target audience has no degree. Although this book takes a look at nearly every aspect of inorganic chemistry, I often felt a bit cheated, because it only explored certain things so far. Frequently, an explanation would go further and further in-depth, only to end with the statement, "To explain this topic more deeply is beyond the scope of this text." Give us the knowledge, already!
Overall, the book is well-done and relatively easy to follow. The style of writing, though, is a bit over the heads of most first-year chemistry students.

I have the sixth edition of this text and find it very helpful in my Chemistry course in college. I have to say that the THREE one-star reviews of this text were given by a single person apparently trying to get the attention of Amazon to get a teacher's edition of a later version.

This is a disservice to the author and should not be tolerated by Amazon. All the other editions have multiple stars. Don't we have any other way to query Amazon?

This hard book is GOOD for those who are new to general chemistry because it is full of information and it doesn't assume you know this like some authors and publishers. It is best to buy this book online instead of a bookstore (college) because you'll pay more. This book also has illustrations to help you, and it will be used for the full one year of general chemistry. I think this book is one of the best books I had while completing my undergraduate degree. I don't think buyers would be disappointed if bought. Even years after graduating, I still think about this book in terms of the straight-forward information it gives. I hope future buyers will agree.

I purchased this for my AP Chemistry Class. This was an excellent book. It's very clear-cut and well laid out. The examples and such are helpful, and most things are fairly easy to understand. I would not recommend this book, however as a substitute for a teacher.

the best introductory chem book out there. i used it for my ap chem test, and the book was so easy to understand. i didn't pay attention in class and was able to get a 98 average, although the class average was much lower (80s).
