Fair book with good written directions to go with the typical sequential pictures. As with any martial art, unless you have studied for a while (more than two years) and have mastered one art, trying to learn from a book is not a good idea. I have studied Tang So Do for over 20 years, Tomiki Aikido for over 15, and Yang Style for 20 years as well.

It takes time to learn from the book, but it can be done....the written directions take patience. There are many interpretations of Chen style (just as there are with most of the Tai Chi styles), so finding a video on YouTube takes some time. Between a video, the pictures in the book and the written discription, you can learn with this book.

It's hard to find books on the Chen style. This one is well written and covers as much as you can expect in a book.

(As I understand it) This book deals with chen forms used in competition. I must say it is quite different from the ch'en style I am learning. Same characteristic silk reeling energy, but in a different, less interesting form.
