Surviving DIVA.,

This review is from: Cher - The Farewell Tour (DVD)
Cher has been singing for over 40 years and she did it very good and I think that she'll continue doing it. So in 2002 she decided to start what it was going to be her Farewell Tour. This show is similar as her 2000 Believe Tour but with more production and quality (with this I'm not saying that it was bad, it was very good actually but this is way much better). On this show you can see Cher performing all her hits plus others that were on the program but weren't added to the final cut of the concert that was recorded in the American Airlines Arena in Miami Beach. As every Cher show you'll see lots of costumes changing, specail effects, lots of dancers and all Cher's Extravaganza. She has been very clever doing it now that she can do it very good without showing weakness of any kind. Some of the songs here are her #1's "Gypsies, tramps and thieves", "Dark lady", "Half-breed" and "Believe" plus her other hits like "If I could turn back time", "Just like Jesse James", "I found someone" and "Song for the lonely". She covered once again as the opening number U2's "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" (which honestly sounds better on her). And finally among the special features you'll find the new "If I could turn back time" video, 3 extra live songs, Cher's special version of West Side Story (not big deal) and behind the scenes. Very good Cher you did it again.

Excellent performance, I was pleasantly surprised,

I went into watching this concert with some reservation, but was pleasantly surprised. Cher's costume changes, and impressive songlist make this a must-own DVD. The only song I don't think she should include is the U2 cover of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", this song does not work for Cher.
I thoroughly enjoyed the 'history' part of the show where Cher dresses like she did in the 70's and performs her hits from then as part of a medley. Cher still looks exactly the same as she did, so dressing up like that really works well. I also loved it when the medley moved into her 1979 disco hit "take me Home". Cher appeared in a carbaret outfit for this, simply stunning! Then the song "The Way of Love" was performed, and Cher reappeared looking like she did in the mid 70's with very long straight black hair and an elegant slinky gown. This performance alone, is worth the price of the DVD. If all of this wasn't enough, Cher does more costume changes for the "If I could turn back time" song, and yes, she really pulls this off beautifully. Love her, or hate her, you cannot deny that Cher is one of the true survivors. I have the utmost respect for an artist that continually reinvents themselves, but does not forget any of their past. This concert is an absolute pleasure to watch. I highly recommend it to see how a true performer puts on a show. Well done Cher. I only wish the concert was longer.

THE ULTIMATE DIVA!,

This review is from: Cher - The Farewell Tour (DVD)
I bought this DVD yesterday and have already watched it about 5 times! Cher's natural gift for performing makes this concert an electrifying show with too many costume changes to count on both hands!
The show's song run as follows: 1. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For 6/10 2. Song For The Lonely 8/10 3. Gayatri Mantra 5/10 4. All Or Nothing 7/10 5. I Found Someone 8/10 6. Bang Bang 7/10 7. Sonny & Cher Medley (The Beat Goes On, Baby Don't Go, I Got You Babe) 9/10 8. All I Really Want To Do (Medley Part 1) 6/10 9. Half-Breed (Medley Part 2) 7/10 10. Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves (Medley Part 3) 8/10 11. Dark Lady (Medley Part 4) 9/10 12. Take Me Home 5/10 13. The Way Of Love 6/10 14. After All 10/10 15. Just Like Jesse James 10/10 16. Heart Of Stone 6/10 17. The Shoop Shoop Song 10/10 18. Strong Enough 9/10 19. If I Could Turn Back Time 10/10 20. Believe 9/10 Every song in the show is a classic but nothing can beat Cher's performances of 'Just Like Jesse James', 'The Shoop Shoop Song', and 'If I Could Turn Back Time'. The 'Sonny & Cher' montage is a nice stroll down memory lane as are the montages showing Cher's movies and and other things including her Oscar win for 'Moonstruck'. The special features are also very entertaining and include a behind the scenes look at the tour, Cher's special version of 'West Side Story', and the 2003 re-edit music video for 'If I Could Turn Back Time'. This is a must have DVD for any Cher fan young or old, the only bad thing about it is that it is her farewell tour!

My husband is the real Cher fan of the family, so I bought this DVD for him. However, I enjoyed this concert at least as much as he did. They do this incredible thing of showing her singing side by side with herself of 40 years ago. I had a huge emotional reaction to several of the older clips that were shown, alternating between laughter and tears. Cher is shown singing with Sonny, including the reunion on the late night talk show. This concert is one of the best concerts that we have seen on DVD.In her Farewell Tour, she is going out like she came in: funny, beautiful, flashy, sexy and energetic. Thank you, Cher, for forty wonderful years. We will miss you.

CHER IS LARGER THAN LIFE!,

This review is from: Cher - The Farewell Tour (DVD)
After seeing Cher's farewell tour on television, I knew that I wanted to have something to commemorate her final tour extravaganza. From beginning to end, Cher keeps us fascinated by her ever changing looks and her unmistakable voice, the DVD has something for everyone who has ever followed the career of this one of a kind diva. Included in the DVD are bonus materials that give a behind the scenes glimpse at all the elements that go into making Cher's farewell tour a visual spectacle, including costumes, sets, rehearsals, and much more. For anyone who loves Cher, this is a DVD that must be included in one's collection. It spans the entire length of her career through costumes, music, and film. Definitely a show to be watched over and over just to see Cher dazzle the audience with costumes that range from Indian dress (where she enters the stage on a colorful eye catching elephant) to the days of fur vests from the early Sonny and Cher days. Cher covers all the bases in this show, singing all the songs that made her famous. Also, the exciting clips from her television days give us glimpses of duets sung with the likes of Tina Turner, Elton John, the Jackson Five, David Bowie, all of which show how versatile Cher as a performer was and is. Cher was correct when she stated at the beginning of the show wearing an outrageous costume depicting a circus ring leader--with a whip--This is the Cherest show on Earth! She will never be surpassed by any of the so called stars of today.

This DVD is great but I prefer Chers 1st DVD,

Don't get me wrong this is a great DVD but when compared to her 1st DVD it falls a bit flat for me compared to her 1st DVD for one reason ... less heart little more glitz. Both DVD's have much of the same material and excellant staging with plenty of surprises ... but her 1st DVD seems like she is enjoying every moment and not taking herself so seriously. The person of Cher is caught more deeply and personally in the 1st DVD. It just is fresh and fun. To me beyond her singing and talent for wonderful staging is she is an amazing person and has had a wonderful life story which plays out through her music over a life time. The 1st DVD comes across more genuine and full of a one on one feel and from the heart as well as being a top notch production. I personally think her 1st DVD caught her at her physical and emotional best where the Fare Well Tour DVD seems to be a step down .... but for Cher a step down is still a great performance. So my 2 cents is If you want the person of Cher and all the great staging and most of the same songs check out her 1st DVD over the Fare Well Tour.

After seeing Cher's farewell tour concert twice, I didn't want it to end. Cher at her best, the music, costumes, and her stage dancers, nobody can beat it.This is by far the best concert ever, and the DVD brings it as close to live as you can get. |
