Long, Killer Workout...and Fun!,
By
This review is from: CherFitness: A New Attitude [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I work out with step aerobic videos 4-7 days a week, and this one is one of my favorites. I save this video for the weekend or days off because it is very long (1 hour and 22 minutes), but it is worth the time. The first segment is the step workout that lasts about 38 minutes. It has a long warmup and a very fun step routine. Cher and the gang obviously had a blast filming this workout, and it rubs off on the viewer. The music used is also cool ("Missionary Man" by the Eurythmics, "All Right Now" by Free, etc.) The cool down is very short, however. You do a few lunges and stretches and that's it. If you do the entire video though (which I would recommend), you get a better cool down at the end. The step workout is at an intermediate level. Nothing too fancy and only a few power moves which are optional (of course, the user can always add propulsion). The second segment is a ten-minute ab workout. On many aerobics videos, additional ab routines are very short (maybe 3 or 4 sets at 8 reps each). This ab workout is ten minutes non-stop with very tiny pulses. One of the best ab routines I've found. The final segment is by far the toughest. It is 32 minutes of leg toning. Squats, lunges, leg raises, you name it. The first part of this segment is the most challenging. You will feel the burn big time! Once you get to the leg raises, it gets much easier but still challenging. The last part isolates the inner thighs. Instructor Keli Roberts does an excellent job explaining proper body alignment for each of the moves. Finally, there is a cool-down stretch (you'll need it). Cher is there through the whole video and adds her own comments during some of the segments. New Attitude gives you an all-around, full body workout!

After 11 years, this is still the best video workout,

This review is from: CherFitness: A New Attitude [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I'm on my third copy of this tape, and after 11 years, this workout is still the most complete, effective and fun to do. Although Cher and some of the others in the tape are the pinnacle of body sculpting, there are others on screen that represent more down to earth body types, and the workout is clearly explained and presented at all fitness levels. A step adds to the intensity, but all the exercizes can be done on the floor.Keli Roberts, the instructor, is exceptionally informative and inspiring, and the moves are challenging, yet uncomplicated enough for beginners, including clutzy beginners, to learn in a short time. And the routines are fun and imaginative enough to inspire the most advanced users. Cher and friends have some lively kibbitzing going, and do a good job in keeping the video unintimidating. When compared with other tapes, this workout is excellent in its thoroughness and emphasis on breathing and safety. A BIG plus is that it uses "real" pop music, and Cher's tunes aren't even half of the numbers included; songs like Dusty Springfield's "Son of a Preacherman" add to the fun. When compared to the canned, cheezy synthetic music on other exercise videos, this tape rocks. I couldn't recommend any other tape more highly.

Non Cher Fan Loves It for Abs,
By
This review is from: CherFitness: A New Attitude [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I am so not a Cher fan. In fact, I don't even remember what made me buy this tape several years ago.I do know that I have never found a more concise, effective ab workout on a tape before. I've never really used the other programs on the tape as I do other aerobic activities. I was basically looking for guidance in toning my abdominals. This tape is perfect for that. The ab workout is 10 minutes, but will leave you feeling like you accomplished something and you really do. It's the one tape that I keep putting in the VCR. I only wish there was a DVD version so that I didn't have to keep rewinding or fast forwarding to the desired section.

Really good,

Okay, so if you're super fit the step work out may not be a challenge for you. But for the rest of us, it gets the heart pumping. There are three sections to this tape. 40 min of step aerobics, 10 min of abs (that I can't do all of yet it's that hard--and I'm in pretty good shape) and 30 min of leg work that HURTS. My only dislike to this video (but I have this problem with most workout videos) is that they skimp on true stretching. But that is understandable since it is really boring to do watch people hold stretches (that hurt) for 30 seconds or more. Like I said, the lack of stretching is nothing new. Other problem is the cool down from the step. She just has you stop and begin stretching, which if you need to take a longer time to cool down can be a bit of a jolt. But if you do the rest of the video afterwards, this is not a big problem. The good points. A perfectly adequate warm-up. As mentioned before a lovely, gut wrenching step workout (bring water and lots of it, you'll need it). Simple steps in several different levels. I love that Cher doesn't do everything perfectly. Near the end of the step workout you can tell she is tired and she stops using her arms. It made me feel much better about feeling tired. And an absolutely painful but good abs and legs workout. This is great for beginners and intermediate exercisers. Usually I do this video about every other day (except weekends which I give myself a break on) and on alternate days I lift hand weights and do lots of stretching. With the help of this video I feel and look so much better, to quote Cher on the back of the video, in and out of my clothes. I highly recommend it.

Stuck on Cher Fitness for 8 1/2 Years!,

This review is from: CherFitness: A New Attitude [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This has been my favorite exercise video since December 1991. I literally crave this video. During a recent move I lost my tape. Since then I have been going crazy with out it. This is such a fun workout that I find myself just jumping up and popping it in. There are other times when I finish the Step portion I just rewind the tape for a second go round. Celebrity videos usually don't impress me because they look so rehearsed. What makes Cher Fitness unique is that Cher is not really that great during the workout, and she is learning and working right along with you.

Give it a chance!,

Okay, I'm not a Cher fan, although I do like the song "Believe". But, this tape is wonderful! It was given to me by someone who didn't want it, and what a score! I'll admit, Cher is cheesy in her fishnet stockings and black ruffled leotard! But, once you get past that, it's a great workout. I have over 30 tapes, and I always come back to this one. The soundtrack is great, even though the music is a little dated. But, in most videos the music is terrible, elevator-like music. This is rock-n-roll. The moves are great, effective, and fun. Totally worth the price tag!

Step It Up With Cher....Keli Roberts Instructs...,
By
This review is from: CherFitness: A New Attitude [VHS] (VHS Tape)
There are 77 reviews here already for "Cherfitness: A New Attitude" and the average rating is 5 stars. That is about right, and I'd like to add my 5 star rating as well. But I would say this is not for those who are just getting into workouts, or have been out of it for a while. For those I would suggestStart Up with Jane Fonda for very beginners orTHE FIX -A DANCE WORKOUT for coming back after being away for a while, which has 3 programs, to help you burn calories and firm up. However, if you have been doing aerobics for a while and want to step up the intensity of your work out, you will love the step work out here. You will burn more calories then with regular floor aerobics, and the instructor is one of the best. Keli Roberts.
The Step Work out is the first of a 3-part class. Before the program begins, Cher will give a little pep-talk, and show a picture of three different levels you could do according to your level. For very beginning level step, you may not want to use a step at all. There is one girl in the class that does the entire routine without the steps. This will help in getting the moves down, and later you can add 6 inches to ten inches as you get stronger. Cher does an intermediate level at about 6 inches. You can always modify to your physical limitatins or even step up the intenseness of the workout by adding arms and then weights. Of course, you should probably check with your Doctor if you have any physical limitations. But the step is a very good low impact way to burn those calories baby. Of Course..you will need a step for this, and this is one of the only pieces of equipment that I will not improvise. it is important to have a properly made sturdy step that adjusts to different levels, and has a no slip top to it. The step workout is 38 minutes, which includes a dynamite warm-up,then moves you in all directions, and has some good abductions, then about 1/2 way through there is a heart rate check and a chart with your age group to make sure you are doing okay, and a nice cool down stretch at the end. Next up a short but intense ab work out. it is only 10 minutes, but highly effective. Keli will continually remind you of proper positioning for best results and no injury. She works upper and lower abs, and sides as well. There is also a little work for your back, which is excellent for strengthening. You may want to use a Yoga mat for the ab workout. Not just for comfort, but you'll be on your tummy for the back-work, and a mat will keep carpet fibers and dust away from your face. Last but not least a really tough leg workout. The hard stuff..Hips Buns and Thighs! Yeow...I could not get through it all at first. And Cher will remind you not to do more then you can. Build up to it. So Beginners, do what you can, intermediates, this should step up your workout. And Advanced...let's see those weights! This last workout is 32 minutes. The entire tape runs around, 90 minutes, but that includes, Cher's pep talks, warm ups and cool downs. But most of the time you will be working. Also if you feel you need more of a cool down or stretch, just pause it and go for it. I am splitting this tape into two sessions. The entire length is too much for me and my hip replacement. Cher has picked some music that is highly motivating and fun. You know when you warm up to "Born To Be Wild", your in for a good time. Cher cracks jokes, and yes in true form changes her outfit for each session. This workout has been around a long time, maybe 15 years, but if it ain't broken....well you know! Go for it. Remember to breathe, eat healthy, and enjoy....Laurie

Superb....Long Time Keeper,

This review is from: CherFitness: A New Attitude [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I've owned this video since 1994 and I still use it. I started with this video and combined it with Tamilee Webb's Abs and lost 18 pounds in three months. It combines a fun and comprehensive warm up of 10 minutes, approximately 40 minutes of a thorough and fufilling step workout, 10 minutes of ab work on the floor and a really tough 30 minute hips buns and thigh section on the end of the tape. The last portion is the toughest with lots of lunges. Its completed with a short section for cool down. The instructor, Kelli provides great energy and instruction. I've used and will continue to use this one for years.

I LOVE this tape! Last year I decided to get in shape and do it the right way. I had never used an excercise video before. My sister-in-law gave it to me and it helped me lose 20 pounds. I am here on Amazon buying it because my vcr ate my other copy. I love this tape! I was afraid I'd never find it because it is so old (but not out dated). I recommend this tape for everyone who wants to reshape their body and for everyone who wants to keep it shaped. I went from a size 12 to a 6!

One of the BEST workouts EVER!!,
By
This review is from: CherFitness: A New Attitude [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is BY FAR one of the best Step workouts I have ever done. Cher is delightful and Kelli Roberts is a first rate instructor, with excellent cuing and a serious, but fun, attitude. I did this workout when it first came out and it became my favorite. I have since lost my VHS and am reordering this workout, you know a workout is great if you remember it years later and buy it for the second time but this workout is that good. The Abs workout is tough but very effective and the thigh workout is the best, done while standing, which makes it effectively different. I love the music in this one! This is truly a 5 Star Workout, whether you are a Cher fan or not. Like many others,I only wish it was available on DVD.
