As one of many Partridge Family/ David Cassidy fan's, who has waiting for some of his best solo work to be released on CD, I am glad to see that his debut album from 1972 IS here! By the time this album was released, David's carreer sored throughout the world. Selling bigger venues than the Beatles and making all the young girls cry. Although this David solo effort had a more mature overtone than the PF recordings, neverthess, it symbolizes pop music of it's time. It contains 2 top 40 singles here, and David didn't have to many solo ones here! The title Association's remake and Could It Be Forever. I Am A Clown was a big hit in Europe and remains one of his fans favorites. My favorite song was and still is My First Night Alone Without You. I later discovered that Bonnie Raitt did a version of that tune as well! David's IS the BEST! He also co-wrote a tune about his dog called Rickys Tune. We Could Never Be Friends with it's honest message and pop melody make this a standout as well. Blind Hope, I Lost My Chance and (another favorite) Where Is The Morning are awesome. I would have given this CD 5 stars if they added the non-lp Cherish B-side, All I Wanna Do Is Touch You. I guess I'll have to wait for another Millennium! I hope Rock Me Baby and Dreams... are in the making!....PLEASE?

When I was growing up in the early 70's, my older sister played David Cassidy and Partridge Family albums non-stop until she grew too old for them and I either took them from her room or bought second copies for myself...Who knew that Buddha would re-release the soundtrack of my childhood complete with the gorgeous pictures of David by Henry Diltz frolicking in the mountains with his manager's horse in his red velvet jeans, huge-lapelled zipper-pull sweaters and fabulous shaggy locks? If only David had peaked in the heyday of video, his gorgeous looks married with that breathy, overtly sexual voice would have catapulted him even further into mass hysteria, although I doubt that is possible. For all the holier-than-thou elitest music critics, get off your pedastal; David can sing with the best of them(as proven by his success 30 years later). This album has a mood; a sexy, sad set of ballads paired with just a few jazzier numbers like ("We Could Never Be Friends Because We've Been Lovers Too Long", and "I Just Wanna Make You Happy") that give you an achingly romantic feel for the David of the 70's. I've seen him live recently and he's awesome, but there is something to the teeny-bopper-packaged David of the 70's (lonely, shy and so beautiful) that does justice to this first solo effort. On "Could It Be Forever," and "Blind Hope," I never tire of hearing David husky croonings. This album is chock-full of Wes Farrell tunes and songs by my favorite PF tunesmith, Tony Romeo, that seem to be custom-made for this achingly beautiful man. The album's tracks flow nicely(with the exception of the original, unedited version of I Am A Clown) and even "Ricky's Tune" in its orginal format is infinitely better than David's re-release on 2002's CD "Then & Now" in which he alters the words. I am suspicious about this tune being about David's dog (named Sam but renamed Ricky??) but it is vintage David Cassidy. The best part of this album is hearing that lush sexy voice singing about love and loss and sadness and seeing the CD booklet of some never-before-released Henry Diltz photos (in addition to the original album back cover photos). Recently, Buddha announced the re-release of several other PF and DC studio albms including Shopping Bag, Crossword Puzzle and Rock Me Baby, David's second solo album. I don't think that Rock Me Baby captures the innocence of a 21-year old David like "Cherish" does. This album should be dusted off and savored; David, you make us all so happy!

David Cassidy's "Cherish" LP was a huge break out solo attempt by the artist best known for his portrayal of Keith Partridge, the perennial teenage eldest son on the hugely popular "Partridge Family" series on ABC. David's continous urge to expand his audience to a rock status gave birth to this first solo project. Yet, as it is told, he was still under strict restrains at the time by producer Wes Farrell who also produced the Partridge's musical numbers. It was said that Farrell made Cassidy follow guide lines to not overstep the purity of his Partridge status much to Cassidy's dismay but Cassidy was so enthusiastic to break the mold he gave in. Thus his first foray into a solo career sounds very similar to his Partridge tunes that Arista included many of his tunes on the Partridge compilations and it is difficult fora novice Partridge fan to really hear any difference and any of these tunes could have easily transcended over into the TV Show which was Farrell's intention. Please do not think I am easily dismissing this project however. The tunes here are beautifully produced and executed and showcase Cassidy's breathy vocals successfully. Among the bouncey Partridge-esque tunes are "Being Together", "I Just Wanna Make You Happy"(strangely reminiscent of the gypsy-like quality of Cher's "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" for some reason), and "We Could Never Be Friends (Cause We've Been Lovers Too Long". All are fun loving and peppy tunes but I think the standout ballads are what deliver this album such as the single release of "Could It Be Forever" and the hauntingly depressing "My First Night Alone Without You" which is in my humble opinion a great standout song beautifully rendered here in Cassidy's undeniable earnest vocal. I know many may not agree, but I feel Cassidy's single "Cherish" far outdoes the Association's original. Excellent David Cassidy rendition! Also included in the ballad department are "Where Is The Morning" but greater still are the morose but beautiful "I Am A Clown" and the extremely underrated self-penned "Ricky's Tune" but a definate fan favorite and would have been a surefire hit if released as a single instead of the flip side of "How Can I Be Sure". Cassidy's first venture into a solo career is well worth a listen and is economically priced for the serious collector as well as newcomers to the Partridge/Cassidy fold!

Well done ARISTA records! For releasing the long awaited Cherish Album on CD. The single Cherish was release in late 1971 reaching number 9 in the US Charts. David's first solo LP:Cherish followed in early 1972. It reached No.15 in the US/No.2 in UK. The LP was deleted by the late 70's.

This fabulous Album contains some big hits making their way on CD for the first time. They are Could It Be Forever, I am A Clown and Cherish. Unlike the other compilations: David Cassidy and The Partridge Family Definitive Collection (2000) and The Partridge Family Greatest Hits (1989), the version of Could It Be Forever is a different watered down take. On the Cherish album/CD it is the original (BEST) hit version. This CD also contains the complete (original) full length I am A Clown (UK No.3) unlike on the Definitive Collection.

Every track is brilliant and catchy. My First Night Alone Without You, Where Is The Morning are ace. My favourite track is Could It Be Forever. This was a massive hit (No.2) at the time here in the UK.

Having bought the original LP many years ago it is a delight to have this on CD. When I first heard this album I rated it a Number 1. It typifys early 70's easy listening for young people at the time. And despite some corny lyrics the recorded work and arrangements are richly well done. It is beautifully remastered. Excellent sound quality.

In my view/personal taste, out of all the David Cassidy/Partridge Family albums, this is David's best ever album he has ever recorded along with his 1985 Romance CD album. Perhaps a possible reissue on CD by arista and the remaining Cassidy solo LPs in the future!

If you have not heard this album before, you won't be disappointed, don't delay obtain it, before it is deleted again. Amazon has rated 5 stars for a `top marks' I rate this CD 10!

Look, I'm a guy and I think David Cassidy is COOL! I know, I know. I can't stand "today's" music. Can you? If anyone on American Idol sang these songs, they would win regardless of how talented they are.

Blind Hope, Could it Be Forever, I Lost My Chance are great songs.

This is one of David Cassidy"s finest albulms...
With the great song writers of that time including Adam Miller his voice is challenged and he replies with some beautiful songs and hitting high notes perfectly.When you listen to him sing these songs on this albulm you realise the great voice he had and why he became the big star...This guy can really sing and had the perfect ingredient of that time with the most prolific song writers I believe of the century.
David Cassidy is an actor and singer and sings these songs with the feeling and emotions they deserve...These songs were made for him on this albulm and I doubt any other performer would be able to deliver these songs in the way he does with the same feeling and emotion..A trademark Cassidy albulm with beautiful songs of a special era...All the songs are beautiful with his star quality that made him a superstar..I especially love BLIND HOPE....Adam Miller...Listen to how beautiful David sings this song with so much emotion and feeling...The whole albulm is truly beautiful...One of his first and best and must for Cassidy fans.

'Cherish' was the first album I ever bought in 1972, and has remained in my record collection ever since. Growing up in England, I witnessed Cassidy Mania first hand. This album was massive and deservedly so, I can't believe it has taken so long to appear on CD!! Let's hope 'Rock Me Baby', 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes' and 'Cassidy Live' are on the way. 'Cherish' is worth buying for the opening cut alone, 'Being Together' is brilliant. Then of course there is the magnificent 'Could It Be Forever', which introduced the UK to this fabulous singer. Buy it now!!

Although I won't recommend this to any non-fans or younger people, I myself was overjoyed to be able to buy this reissue. The sound has been remastered, and every track is in its full length glory.

It's one of those albums you got when you're nine or ten, tossed when it became too embarrassingly uncool, and now there's no way to get it back...if not for the good people at Buddah.

It occurred to me after hearing the album for the first time in 20 years: David was not a bad singer at all...he's actually good, a lot better than those wimpy voiced boy bands nowadays.

Also, two songwriters provided the best materials: Adam Miller (and I'm stupidly hoping Buddah will release his album!) and Tony Romeo, infamous for "I Think I Love You", but actually was an unjustly underrated Jimmy Webb.

I've been a DC and PF fan from the time the series aired on Dutch television. Being 12 years old at the time, money failed me to get all there was to buy. However, the LP's I bought were cherished. Every once in a while the songs popped to mind and I would listen to them for months. Such a period appeared again. Thankful for the possibility of the internet, I recently bought almost everything there is of DC and de PF from Amazon. I just received the package and haven't stopped listening since. Cherish is my favorite. David's voice is somewhat lower than on the first PF CD's (I like it better this way), the sound and songs are great!. I like particularly Blind Hope, I Lost My Chance and Where Is The Morning. I just recommend this CD to everyone who loves to listen to the breathy voice of David, which we all love so much. Five stars from me, the linernotes are very nice too, however I don't understand the statement about Ricky's Tune, which is supposed to be a song about David's dog? Maybe lyrics in the booklet would have helped. I always love to have the lyrics of the CD too. Maybe an idea for the new re-release of all the DC and PF albums, and for some albums not yet released on CD??

David Cassidy doesn't write much about this record in his auto-biography, probably because it was a Patridge Family album in all but name. Some tunes are a little more personal("I Am a Clown", "Blind Hope")and Cassidy gets his own song("Ricky's Tune"), yet there's not much of his personality in evidence--however, there's a whole lotta Keith Patridge here and for PF fans it's a great trade-off. Who but a '70's cynic could resist these tender bubblegum odes? It looks and seems harmless enough, but Cassidy's handlers knew what they were doing: several tracks are teenybopper bliss, heartache touchstones.
