Book Description

December 15, 1998
New second edition, partially in full color of Cherokee Proud, 1st ed. which has been one of the best selling Native American books in the nation for over two years. Absolutely the "bible" of Cherokee Indian Genealogy written by a Cherokee who is considered an expert in tracing Cherokee roots. Millions of Americans have family traditions of Cherokee blood, but few know the steps necessary to prove or disprove the old stories. This highly acclaimed and comprehensive new 336 page book contains everything any researcher needs to guide them to documenting ancestry. Includes many little known places to search other than the usual census rolls. If the data in Cherokee Proud , 2nd Ed. doesn't lead one to proof of Cherokee ancestry, nothing can! Also features ribbons of Cherokee culture: history, customs, music, dance and language to acquaint those who have just learned of possible blood connections with the lifestyles of those they seek.

"Cherokee Proud is the very best book I have ever seen on tracing Cherokee genealogy." -- RICHARD PANGBURN, acclaimed author of Indian Blood, Vol. I & II found in most libraries

"McClure unabashedly loosens his journalistic standards for portions of this book which reach him too emotionally. Understood. Fascinating and enlightening."

"The contents of Cherokee Proud are exceptional - valuable information that can be used by so many readers and researchers who have Native American (Cherokee) ancestry." -- DON SHADBURN, Famous Georgia historian and noted author of Unhallowed Intrusion and Cherokee Planters of Georgia

If you're looking for your Cherokee roots, this concise and clear prose on how and where to do it is a vital tool. For anyone seeking a spiritual connection to the Cherokee soul I also recommend WALKING THE TRAIL by Jerry Ellis which chronicles his 900 mile walk along the Trail of Tears.

Whether you are researching Cherokee lineages or just wanting to be well informed on Cherokee history and culture, you need this book! I found it not only informative but compelling to read and so hard to put down that I read it completely by flashlight one night at a boy scout campout after getting the book from Amazon that day. WaDo Tony!

I find this book informative on finding your Cherokee ancestors as well as making you feel proud of your heritage. It makes you want to learn more about being a Cherokee and honoring your cherokee family. From this book I have learned many things but most of all I learned of my Cherokee heritage and I am very proud of being a Cherokee. Good work Tony McClure.
