5.0 out of 5 stars Every Girl Should Read This Wonderful Series!
What a delight to rediscover our courageous nurse Cherry Ames all over again! Let Cherry take us back to an era of simple virtues where honesty and integrity mattered. Cherry Ames is a series most of us baby boomers remember reading, along with Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, Vicki Barr, Dana Girls, Bobsey Twins, Hardy Boys and the like. 3.0 out of 5 stars Retro Detective Nurse Series Makes A Comeback
Cherry Ames makes a comeback. Fresh, lively confections that enthralled me as a kid don't hold up quite as well to the adult reader, but that's not the point. Mystery Writers of America member Helen Wells fleshed out a peppy prewar characterization of a high-spirited eighteen year-old nurse whose high-spirited, curious ways get her in entertaining fixes as she pursues her...

A true treasure to explore and pass on to our own children or just to read and discover the magic of series books all over again. I would recommend these books to any young girl and I am delighted to see my old friend and nurse Cherry again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cherry Ames book republished, March 8, 2006
This review is from: Cherry Ames Boxed Set (Books 1-4) Student Nurse, Senior Nurse, Army Nurse & Chief Nurse (Hardcover)
I have fond memories of reading the Cherry Ames series in 3rd grade and was delighted to see them republished. Although I pursued a career in mental health, rather than nursing, I can still make the correlation having absorbed that nurturing atmosphere prevalent in these books. Highly recommended!

This review is from: Cherry Ames Boxed Set (Books 1-4) Student Nurse, Senior Nurse, Army Nurse & Chief Nurse (Hardcover)
Cherry Ames is cheerful, thoughtful, polite, and hardworking. She embodies values that are often missing today. I enjoy the interaction between the characters, and the wholesomeness of the scenarios.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best!, December 13, 2005

This review is from: Cherry Ames Boxed Set (Books 1-4) Student Nurse, Senior Nurse, Army Nurse & Chief Nurse (Hardcover)
The Cherry Ames series, written by Helen Wells and later Julie Tatham, ran in a successful 27 book run for over twenty years (from 1944 to 1967). In it, we meet a young girl named Cherry who resides in sunny Illinois. Throughout the series, from her early nursing school days through the War and beyond, she rises up through the medical ranks, each story bringing her closer to the readers. She faces hardships, heartbreaks, and a few rambunctious friends throughout the set, but always comes out on top. A class 'A' read and highly recommended!

I bought this for my grandniece age 9. She likes them very much.
I read them as a child and also enjoyed them.
I'd recommend them for any young child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cherry Ames is Back!, February 10, 2006
This review is from: Cherry Ames Boxed Set (Books 1-4) Student Nurse, Senior Nurse, Army Nurse & Chief Nurse (Hardcover)
As a soon to be nursing student, I discovered these books on ebay and I just love them. However my copies are old (the original 40's editions) which I am uncomfortable with b/c I prefer to leave things like that to collectors. I am thrilled the books are being reprinted and will be buying all of them should they all be released.

The original books show there age in some parts, but that is all part of their charm to me. Cherry Ames is someone to be admired, even if the character is a little different from todays nurses.

Fabulous books and sure to inspire a whole new generation into nursing.

I grew up reading the orignal copies of these books that my grandmother had as a teen. Down to earth, wholesome reads for every young teen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great memories, August 19, 2008
This review is from: Cherry Ames Boxed Set (Books 1-4) Student Nurse, Senior Nurse, Army Nurse & Chief Nurse (Hardcover)
I just purchased the complete set of the Cherry Ames nurse stories that were written by Helen Wells. The packaging was beautiful and the covers looked exactly as I remember. I enjoyed reading about Cherry's adventures again as much as I did when I was a young teen. I would also like to purchase the Cherry books written by Julie Tatham when Ms. Wells took some time off. I purchased Cherry Ames at Spencer and it was great. I hope others will enjoy them as much as I have. The sets are also very reasonably priced.

3.0 out of 5 stars Retro Detective Nurse Series Makes A Comeback, December 17, 2007
This review is from: Cherry Ames Boxed Set (Books 1-4) Student Nurse, Senior Nurse, Army Nurse & Chief Nurse (Hardcover)
Cherry Ames makes a comeback. Fresh, lively confections that enthralled me as a kid don't hold up quite as well to the adult reader, but that's not the point. Mystery Writers of America member Helen Wells fleshed out a peppy prewar characterization of a high-spirited eighteen year-old nurse whose high-spirited, curious ways get her in entertaining fixes as she pursues her nursing degree and a few dreamy doctors. I bought the first few books at a garage sale in the early 80's for 25 cents and they still have a place of honor on my bookshelf. The later books tended to have a churned- out, formulaic quality with a bevy of different writers who can't capture the zeitgeist. I think today's kids would definitely have a snoozefest with these books. In addition, my mother, who graduated from nursing school in the early 60's, tried to get through the first book, but couldn't. I guess there weren't enough draconian spinster teachers, full shifts on the floor, and egomaniacal supervisors for that realistic kick!

Completely satisfied with order from time it was placed, to how it was
delivered in perfect condition. Was a sentimental gift to a nurse
who also loved as a child, the Nancy Drew stories. Thank you, for
having "just what the doctor ordered"! Deda Lane, SC
