SOMEONE IS KILLING THE VIRGINS OF CHERRY FALLS, VIRGINIA...,
By Lawyeraau (Balmoral Castle) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (COMMUNITY FORUM 04) (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Cherry Falls [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I caught this straight to video movie on the Independent Films Channel. A slasher film with a decent enough cast, Michael Biehn, Brittany Murphy, and Jay Mohr, it is scary, campy, and funny. It has all the makings of a future cult classic.
The plot is simple. Someone is killing the virgins of Cherry Falls, Virginia, so the film centers around its high school and its resident teens. Brittany Murphy capably and engagingly plays the part of Jody, a teenage girl who has remained a virgin, despite some hot and heavy scenes with her hunky boyfriend of a year. She also has a special interest in one of her young teachers (Jay Mohr). When the killing begins, Jody's father (Michael Biehn), the town's sheriff, goes into action to try and discover just who is killing off the virgins in his town. When his daughter is nearly the killer's next victim, it dawn on the sheriff that the answer may revolve around a twenty-seven year old mystery that he knows more about than he cares to say. The teens come up with an interesting solution to the serial killer problem. Simply get rid of your virginity and ensure your safety. While this is going on, however, the killer goes about his bloody business. Just who is the killer, and why are the town's virgins being killed? Watch the film and find out. If you are into horror films that are a bit campy, as well as funny, then this film is worth a rental.

OK, if you love "Friday the 13th" and "Halloween" but always seem to laugh when the victims get their just desserts--this is THE movie for you! It's full of smiles and a very good spoof horror flick with none of the cheese(well, some). The characters are well developed with actual histories and personalities that draw a viewer in and make them want to know more.Cherry Falls has some dirty secrets. As do all small towns in scary movies. The main character is the sheriff's daughter who has a few boyfriend problems of her own. Her Mom is just plain strange, her Dad overly potective, her favorite teacher is overly attentive, and all her friends want to do is lose their virginity. So, what's a girl to do?The town is experencing a rash of murders. Slashing here and there and well everywhere.Who or what is the killer? Believe me when I say that you're going to want to know. The dialogue in this movie is funny. Even better watching it the second time with the knowledge of "knowing" the ending. Fun fun fun.The spoofs are hysterical without being so cheesy that it becomes too unbelievable to watch. Keep your eyes on this movie and enjoy the laughs. If you're a horror fan--all the classic elements will be there. Think "Jamie Lee Curtis"'s cousin in a small town near Bates Motel during a few summers after "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" and throw in a little "Freddy Krueger" sense of humor minus the boiler room, gloves and sleep deprivation.I told ya--it's a cool flick!

The Great Cherry,

I really, really liked this movie,as it was a little differen't to your usual "slasher flick" Brittany Murphy,I thought was excellent, playing the innocent girl, who always escapes the murderer. Her character was really cool I thought. The killer for once doesn't walk slowly after his victims (Michael Myers eat-ya-heart-out) but instead chases the target, wearing the most rediculous costume. There is a real twist in the movie, and you'll have to watch the movie to find that out. Also its not just full-on killing, like Scream ect...(killing off people at random) the killer actually has a motive, which is hunting down virgins. So this movie, which never made it onto the big screen is definetly one to watch!!!

Despite that I have seen heaps of bad reviews from this movie I must say that I enjoyed it. I didn't really catch the thing from the beginning, so perhaps if I had seen more I would have said that it "blew" like others did, but I think it was quite interesting. I found myself in suspense throughout the whole thing and my heart was "racing". The ironic ending totally surprised me and confirmed one of my beliefs: that some/most killers do not just kill for the hell of it, but they have some sort of dreadful past, not that that justifies the whole thing. And... uhm... that's it. I'd have made this review a little less half-assed and a little more long and intelligent, but it's about 3:00 in the morning and I'm just a sleep-deprived fourteen year old.

Looking Down a Red Waterfall of Blood,

On first look the movie seems like a well-to-do slasher flick with a good chance of being a hokey, gorefest with a horrible plot... Which is actually why I rented it. But after sitting through this movie I sat in awe at a true masterpiece slasher flick with a jagged brilliance that I hadn't seen since American Psycho. It took all the rules of horror movies twisted them around and threw them right back in your face to let you see the results. First off the slasher killer is presented as female, absolutely unheard of. And what's great is that she can really stand toe-to-toe with the big boys such as Michael Myers, Jason, Ghostface, Freddy Krueger, and Chucky (well if he were standing on a four foot high stool maybe). Secondly the killer murders virgins, and the motive for the murders is one of the best I've heard in a long time. The movie is absolutely terrifying but still happens to stay very funny, also containing little streaks of dark humor. The cast is terrific with incredible performances by Jay Mohr (Pay it Forward), Michael Biehn (The Terminator), and Brittany Murphy (Clueless). It is a horror movie fans dream and a very smart, original thriller that should not be missed.

this is the blackest of black comedies-- & so well done! i loved it-- it's like a very naughty fusion of Fargo & Clueless... It's really very clever & (unfortunately) underrated & overlooked. i'd recommend it highly!

Where in The World Did this film come from? I dont recall it being released in the theaters and only saw it when I was at the video store. I liked what I read on the back of the box so I took a chance! WOW, what a Very Pleasant Surprise! This Film ROCKS!!! Very Original and a film that keeps you guessing till the end! There are many Slasher Films out there but this one rates Very High On The List. In fact, to just label this a slasher film may be an injustice because I felt that the film actually takes it to a dark satire comedy level! Anyway, if you love film like Scream or I Know What you Did Last Summer or Scary Movie , You Will Love This Film, Trust Me!

Cherry Falls- Not your average 90's Slasher Movie,
By Jenn (Clarksville, Virginia) - See all my reviews

I don't think Cherry Falls really has much comparison with Screams one & two, Or I Know What You Did Last Summer. It's a well thought out movie, Rather unique, Something that I personally enjoyed. I think the fact that it never got released in theaters only adds to it's uniqueness. It's darker than the average stalker/slasher movie of the 90's/00's. Being based on something that could happen to any average person on any given day, Only makes it that more real, Thus for.. Even scarier in a sense. The only scene that I completely disagree with & thought could have been better was the scene nearing the end with all the kids on the stairs & the cops being layed out and trampled on. Most thrilling scenes were the killer & Brittany in the lab at school & the scene at the party where he goes on a slashing spree, Cutting anyone he can get to. I don't think this movie is necessarily for the closeminded, But definately something to be looked into, & enjoyed by people with a taste for something darker, More originally done.

WOW,
This review is from: Cherry Falls [VHS] (VHS Tape)
25 years ago a horrible crime was comitted in the town of Cherry Falls, because of what happened in the past, a serial killer has targeted teenage virgins. While the sherif and the FBI plan to catch the killer, the kids have a plan of their own. After Jody is attacked by the killer word soon goes around that the killer is after virgins. Jody seems to be the main target and her father, the sheriff, seems to know more then he is telling. WOW, these new slasher movies seem to be getting better and better, god bless Scream. First of I'll I'm glad I got to see this on the big screen although it was highly cut (and shows). There are so many good things about this movie, the main thing would be the plot, how cool, a killer targeting Virgins and actully has a damn decent reason for killing as well. The killer also looked really cool when in costume, well it wasn't really a costume but he/she looked really cool. The acting in this movie is very good Brittany Murphy is the standout one great screamer then there is Michael Biehn who was the good guy from The Terminator, he's also very good and there is one of my fave actors Jay Mohr, heck the whole cast is brilliant. Cherry Falls is filled with alot of suspence and the killings are rather violent, I can't wait for the uncut DVD to appear. Cherry Falls is brill see it NOW.

above average slasher flick,
This review is from: Cherry Falls [VHS] (VHS Tape)
During a time when slasher films are becoming nothing but bad acted cheese balls, comes this dark and enjoyable slasher film. The plot is good, a serial killer targeting virgins, the twists are fun, and the atmosphere is dark and moody. It is also good to see Candy Clark back on the screen. This film is definitely worth checking out. The ending was a little disappointing, but all in good fun. At least it made sense...This is definitely recommended...
