4.0 out of 5 stars "CHERRY" ON TOP!!!
Lisa Shaw is the recognizable voice on a lot of the Naked Music releases and has collaborated with numerous producers on that record label. If you're a regular club goer, you may have even heard her voice on a few songs while out on the dance floor. Finally this "house diva" has gone solo, as I knew she eventually would, and her release is as sweet as the fruit it's...

3.0 out of 5 stars Its still Lisa, just a different sound
First things first, she FINALLY did it....she finally got her album out....after years of waiting, we finally have one of her alone. I'm still digesting the lyrics, they are DEEP. So, for that alone, the album is awesome. However, if you are used to her normal Naked sound or if you have ever been honored to see and hear her perform in multiple venues (speaking from...

4.0 out of 5 stars "CHERRY" ON TOP!!!, December 12, 2005

Lisa Shaw is the recognizable voice on a lot of the Naked Music releases and has collaborated with numerous producers on that record label. If you're a regular club goer, you may have even heard her voice on a few songs while out on the dance floor. Finally this "house diva" has gone solo, as I knew she eventually would, and her release is as sweet as the fruit it's penned after. Shaw's vocals are still smooth as usual with some very quiet-storm-on-the-border-funk grooves added for good measure. Don't expect a house-music fest on "Cherry", though--The music here is indeed as one reviewer stated, for grown-ups. Unfortunately, there's nothing here that hasn't been heard before, and sometimes the songs do sound a little uninspired and blase. Without a doubt--and I'm sure other fans of hers will agree--Lisa really shines when she's crooning over a funky house track. Perhaps this release would've been a little more amazing if she would have had a track or two (or three or four) produced by personal fave Miguel Migs. For the most part, "Cherry" is a decent solo release from a lady who has one of the most beautiful voices on the planet!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is for the grown-ups..., November 3, 2005

Respect to those who miss the presence of Miguel Migs and the historic '90s-era Naked sound, BUT...my dear friends you are missing the point. This is not supposed to be another "Nude Dimensions" dance disc. It's supposed to be a full-length album that shows the true range of Ms. Shaw's talents, and it succeeds brilliantly. This full-on soul/r&b/electronic journey is intimate, sexy, and, in this reviewer's opinion, just sublime all the way through. Ms. Shaw's voice is always front and center, like she's right there beside you. The music, the beats never overpower her. Instead, they give her a perfect platform to shine. Jay Denes and Eric Stamile, you guys have done such a marvelous job here - not a note, not a sound out of place. Hard to choose my favorite tracks - this record just has so much to offer, from the melancholy "when i" to the uplifting "grown apart," to the low-down and sleazy "born to fly" and the fabulous, dreamy treatment of "always" (which gives that classic another three years of life). The one word that describes this whole record better than any other is TASTE. If you crave nonstop club beats, buy the remixes - I'm sure they'll be brilliant. But don't for a moment tear down this brilliant record just because it has a broader canvas than the average Bare Essentials mix. Open your mind, and your heart, to this gifted singer and her ace production team...and you will be rewarded many, many times over.

4.0 out of 5 stars Check out the remixes!, November 2, 2005

If it's that Naked Music sound you're after, check out the Cherry remixes coming out Nov. 15. You can get them iTunes NOW! The Miguel Migs Salted Vocal remix ROCKS! Lisa's Cherry album is more mellow than the remixes, of course, but that voice...! Buy the album and curl up with your honey. You won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remember, this is a LISA SHAW CD not NAKED MUSIC CD, December 25, 2005
By
This review is from: Cherry (Audio CD)
My fellow HOUSE-HEADS, and Naked Music Devotees. Let's keep in mind that this is a Lisa Shaw CD, not a Naked Music CD. "Cherry" presents Ms. Shaw's talent as a vocalist beautifully. Showing the young-pop-wanna-be-Divas that singing is about SOUL and not about who can belt out the longest vocal run. The music, like her voice is soulful with a House inspired R&B sound. Simply. It's a great CD.
Just set your expectations that you are not going to be purchasing the latest House CD from Naked Music. If that is all that you are looking for, then you purchase the "Cherry" remixes that are available on iTunes.

5.0 out of 5 stars 13 stunning tracks!!!, October 30, 2005
This review is from: Cherry (Audio CD)
I've been a Lisa Shaw fan for a long time, and was eagerly awaiting this release. There's something that sparkles and dazzles the listener when a debut album comes out and the artist really 'hits the mark' and finds their way to soar in their 'zone'. This is one of those albums.

Lisa's smooth, strong, experience-rich vocals take us deeper here. I'm still delving through the sonic layers, so I won't declare my favorite tracks just yet..... After all, the whole album's destined to become a favorite of mine!

This is a definite "check this out!" recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Always...a Five Star, October 29, 2005

I have been anxiously awaiting this release and I even took a long lunch to drive across town to pick it up from Tower Records. Initially, I wasn't too sure how to digest this latest effort from Lisa Shaw. A quick listen in the car wasn't doing justice for this album. I was starting to get a little disappointed because I wasn't catching the groove that I usually do from a Naked Music release. And then...the other night I was cooking spagetti, sipping some red wine, and listening to "Cherry" on my stereo at full blast. It was at that moment that the words, the beats and the melodies hit me full force. I realized that this album was something very personal for the artist and definitely something personal for the listener. I couldn't believe how simplistic but human Lisa's lyrics were. I have now been listening to this album non-stop because of it's wide range of sounds and moods.

My personal favorites are: Cherry, Don't Know What To Do, Push-Button, Hot Skin, Born To Fly, and The Last Time (really like this one because I think we can all relate to a chance encounter with a very special ex and the bittersweet feelings that come with it. :-). I like the funkiness of Stylin. It will be my pre-clubbing song as I sip on some cocktails waiting for my friends to arrive.

I highly suggest buying this cd. Spread the word around to offer the support that this album truly deserves.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Naked Music Please!!!!!!!!, August 26, 2006
This review is from: Cherry (Audio CD)
For years I waited for lisa Shaw to put out her own album. I must say, that it was worth the wait. Her style and voice puts her in a class of her own. Plus it helps to have smokin beats behind a powerful voice. If you have never heard of Lisa shaw or the Naked Music crew you have been missing out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A SWEET, SEXY, MILDLY THUMPING RIDE - IT'S CHERRY, February 11, 2006
By
This review is from: Cherry (Audio CD)
If you are even remotely a fan of Blue Six's album Beautiful Tomorrow, or of Lisa's sexy vocals featured on some of the tracks on that album, then Cherry is an essential must-have for your collection. Cherry is, of course, the long awaited solo debut of Lisa Shaw, the much respected house vocalist. And this album does not disappoint! From languous downtempo to mid-tempo body-movers, this album has everything I came to love on Beautiful Tomorrow. I have purchased and listened to some very similar vocalists' solo debuts lately, from Aya to Lisa Shaw to Gaelle, and I definitely like this album the best. It is the most worthy descendent of Beautiful Tomorrow.

Check out the following tracks: Cherry, When I, Push-Button, Hot Skin, Matter of Time, Born to Fly, Stylin', and Let It Ride. Never mind, listen to any of them. You can't possibly go wrong with any of the amazing songs on this album.

I hope to hear a lot more of Lisa Shaw in the future, and soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars SOOOO HOT, January 3, 2006
This review is from: Cherry (Audio CD)
If you love OM Records or Naked Music (for more then just the 4/4) then you are viewing a required purchase. There are some stand out tracks for me like "When I", "Born to Fly", and "The Last Time", but over all the entire work is enjoyable...a rare feat. For the underground Deep House heads...there's the original "Always", one of the all time stand-out tracks on Naked (in my humble opinion). Three words for this album "ADD TO CART".
