“Explodes with exuberant fiddle, expert banjo, and passionate harmonies”
Chances are you’ve never encountered a family quite like the Cherryholmes. As little as 10 years ago, the band itself
didn’t exist, and half of its youthful members hadn’t even picked up instruments yet. Now, it’s hard to imagine
bluegrass music without ... Read more in Amazon's Cherryholmes Store

Editorial Reviews

2010 release, the fourth album from the musical Bluegrass family. On Cherryholmes IV Common Threads. the family's harmonic blend is kept intact, while new influential styles and flavors are explored throughout this album in their aggressive instrumental style that is incomparably Cherryholmes. On Cherryholmes IV Common Threads, the band is in their element with powerful new compositions, setting a new course in their musical repertoire.

5.0 out of 5 stars It grew on us June 7, 2010
Format:Audio CD
This CD took a few listens to really appreciate but now I am again finding myself humming certain songs all day long as I did with earlier CDs. Skip's voice in the song "It's Your Love" and the harmonizing is Cherryholmes at its best. Molly's sassy "Live It" is a very catchy tune. I feel I too quickly put a negative feed back on here at first and am doing a complete turn about. This is a great CD and continues to show the talent of this family. A 5 star!

4.0 out of 5 stars IV is another great recording June 13, 2010
Format:Audio CD
I have to agree with an earlier comment that this takes a few listens to really appreciate how great this cd is. Then I found I could not stop playing it, my favourite is still Cherryholmes III Don't Believe, as that contains Broken and its reprise which is the best track Cherryholmes have recorded..... so far. My very minor gripes are that some vocals seem slightly strained and the lyrics of some could be better. Having only one instrumental "Tattoo of a Smudge" considering their previous standouts: "Coastline", "Nine Yards" and "Sumatra" is a loss, but it is another classic. Cia has such talent as a singer and writer her compositions are always quality. "Weaver of Lies" is exceptional. I also love Mollys' "Live It" and "I am your conscience". Unfare not to mention the great mandolin and Guitar of BJ and Skip, this is a group effort though and its a another classy addition, roll on V. Musically this group are brave in progressing without being stuck in a time capsule which no doubt purists would like them to be.
I have been fortunate to see Cherryholmes live on 3 occassions in Scotland and they are simply superb as are each of their cds.

A great band playing great music.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent! August 2, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I was lucky enough to discover the Cherryholmes quite recently when they played a concert in Phx. I had never heard of them and went in with a completely open mind and no expectations. Several of the songs from the cd were a part of the concert. I loved watching and listening to them perform that night...and love listening to them now. I put this cd into my car and have played it repeatedly for several weeks now.

Their talents as musicians are quite amazing and listening to this cd will show anyone how very talented this entire family is. I think their harmonies both musically and vocally are incredible and look forward to seeing how they continue to grow in the future. The daughters vocals are quite pure and I would love to see them highlighted on their own cds.

My favorite song is "weaver of lies" for the vocals, and "Tattoo of a smudge" for the amazing sounds of the instrumentals. If you don't come away tapping your feet after this Cd...then you have no love of music! ~smile~

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Refreshing to hear them sounding great AgaiN June 12, 2010
Format:Audio CD
I love this CD. It has a very nice mixture of fast bluegrass songs and slower bluegrass ballads, The sound quality is excellent and I just like this CD, The creativity flows, and the instruments are great.
The cover is neat artwork and says alot about the album. It shows slices of pics of each band member and I think that the CD does that too. I mean when Molly or Sandy sing,it is a different experience. There is some pop sounding songs in the mix, but that's ok, pop sells CDs, I hear some jazz/swing influences too.
Maybe a bit overproduced, but I like it, There is a great gospel song that is great. One of their best!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Missing Some Energy September 26, 2014
By Garnet
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I bought this CD because of getting "Black and White" and loving it to pieces. However, I don't love this CD nearly as much. Its not as rip-roaring good as "Black and White," as though they just didn't put as much energy into it. The songs themselves are pretty good, but they just fall short of being great at times.

I do enjoy "When It's Not With Me Everyday," and "Changed In a Moment," but generally this is a much slower CD. Definitely, there is a jazz or blues element to the songs at times and that's fine, but I guess I expected more good quick foot-tapping pour your heart out bluegrass and was a bit disappointed. The voices are still good and the playing, but maybe this needed one more go in the studio to get it up to the exhuberance of their other work.

EDIT: I upped the stars to 4 from 3 because I have now been listening to this CD for a few weeks and have gotten to enjoy it, but it was not the same as falling madly in love with their other CD. I still would recommend "Black and White" over this one, but still think its good, but not great. And I know these guys can do great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Many gems! Unique and beautiful vocal qualities October 17, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I love this cd. And, as others have said, these songs really captured me with repeated listening.
I first heard Cherryholmes on Bluegrass Underground on PBS and most or all of these songs were included.
Cia and Molly have uncommonly beautiful vocal qualities. Their mother also excells as lead singer on "Changed in a Moment" which has a wonderful bluesy tone.
All of the songs have superior instrumentals. Tracks are beautifully melodic, full of interesting phrasing, vary in tempo, and are pure heaven to the ear.
I must say I care less for the several songs with one of the brothers as lead vocal, but I'm not sure I've ever had a cd in which I loved every song.
I LOVE most of the songs on this cd!
