More About the Author

I've always loved to write, and I also, when there was time, enjoyed dabbling in various crafts. With my Craft Corner mystery series I'm able to do both! Jo McAllister, protagonist of Wreath of Deception, String of Lies, and Paper-thin Alibi, owns an Arts and Crafts shop, and she gets to do all the fun things I've loved doing, only she does them better. But besides that she gets involved with murder -which I, happily, so far have not. Jo also lives in Maryland, as do I, but she was born there, whereas I was born and bred in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which gave me a fine appreciation of snow, bratwurst, and - on occasion - beer. My first two books, Resort to Murder and A Taste of Death featured a high school math teacher. I was never a teacher, (though they are in my family), so I sent my teacher on vacations which I could then vicariously enjoy, (and no one had to come to feed the cat.) While writing my Craft Corner books, I became quite knowlegeable about all things crafty - wreath-making, scrapbooking, beading, and more. I also became fairly knowledgeable in the ways of murder. And who knows how useful that may someday be?

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystery At It's Best, October 25, 2004
This review is from: Chesapeake Crimes (Hardcover)
If you are a follower of my reviews, you know how much I enjoy short stories. I was excited to be reviewing such as work from a publisher that I know turns out the finest in mystery novels.
Chesapeake Crimes is compiled of short stories packed full of mystery, intrigue and suspense. In this work, you get a delightful taste of numerous authors styles in writing, and perhaps a tad of their 'darker' side as they pen a carload of nail-biting tales, mystery with humor, and real to life characters that grab your attention from beginning to end. I loved the story, "The Butler Didn't Do It." I never saw that ending coming. Great job!
Everyone of the stories is unique, superb in the writers own flare, making each tale fresh and alive, satisfying that hunger for different twists and turns that loom inside the reader. This work is a gift to all mystery lovers. Pick this one up and good luck in being able to put it down. A winner from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars only a few, June 24, 2006
This review is from: Chesapeake Crimes (Paperback)
(Night Shades by Donna Andrews, Grave Ends by Elizabeth Foxwell, Wedding Knife by Elaine Viets)

Once again, another anthology in which I read stories that I chose out of all of them. I love Andrews' Meg Lanslow series, (the reason I sought out the book) and NIGHT SHADES didn't disappoint me. Neither did GRAVE ENDS by Elizabeth Foxwell, or Elaine Viets WEDDING KNIFE. But Viets' sense of humor makes all of her work worth the read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very intriguing stories, March 30, 2004

This review is from: Chesapeake Crimes (Hardcover)
This book is a great compilation of short mystery stories. Each of the stories kept me going until the end. Most books you can tell by the end "who done it," but in Chesapeake Crimes, I was on edge to the very end of every story. My favorite story was by Maria Y. Lima, The Butler Didn't Do It. It was very creative and she has a wonderful imagination. I thought the butler did it right until the end! This book is wonderful and the Sisters in Crime deserve a BIG round of applause for this work.
