Chesapeake is, by far, the very best CD that Rachel Yamagata has issued. The songs reflect her continuing love of "heartbreak" subjects, but there is enough variation in the songs so that your interest is maintained, no matter what type of music you like. The second song on he album is entitled Starlight, and I believe, it is the very finest song Rachel has written to this day. I have listened to it repeatedly and find its cadence to be unique and spiritually uplifting.
Buy this album, you will enjoy it.

For someone who has been following Rachael Yamagata's solo career, Chesapeake has those lyrics and melodies that made her two previous records so memorable. She has a great talent to translate feelings and relationships into a song and this new effort is not different in that side. But this one has a lighter feel that mades it more accessible, not in a commercial way, but in a way it's easier to be in the mood to listen to it instead of her two other records. For listening from begining to end, this is her best.
If you already know Rachael, listen to Chesapeake and support her buying it, it'll be as worthy as always. If you don't know her, you are missing one hell of a talent.
Im'm eager to hear the two bonus tracks from the Uk edition (Heavyweight and It'll do).

Okay, we enjoyed Happenstance and dodged around the waters of Elephants but THIS is really what the RY fan has been waiting for - a much more approachable album that shows the range of talent, yet doesn't leave you wondering (too much).

I had the pleasure of hearing it live last week in Northampton, Mass., and both Rachael Yamagata and the exceptional band played most of the album and it is exquisite. The story behind the adventure of making this truly Indie record gives it the license for enjoyable listening. There's a definite degree of fun in the sound as well as the edge and the sultry depth.

This one is a winner and a keeper, whether in the car, home, or just chilling anywhere. The lyrics and songs are all solid here. And you'll want to play it more and more.

Rachel Yamagata has a very heartfelt and soulful voice which is perfectly reflected on this album. A specific song doesn't immediately come to mind, but it's a beautiful compilation of lazy carefree days at the beach staring at a far expanse of ocean. One of the best in the genre of folk music.

Rachael Yamagata's third album did not disappoint me. Her first two songs were reminiscent of her first single "Worn Me Down" on debut album 'Happenstance'. The rest of the album blends the sounds of her first two solo albums and some of her work with Bumpus. Particular favourites are "Miles On A Car" and "The Way It Seems To Go".

The album ranges in tone and genre, so don't expect it to be full of songs like "Starlight", but don't take that to be a bad thing either. It is not as dark as 'Elephants...Teeth Sinking Into Heart', but has sufficient range to take you through a variety of moods.

I love this album, and I'm proud to have contributed to the PledgeMusic campaign because it turned out a fantastic record. Buy it (and at $7.99 it's a bloody steal!) and you won't regret it.

Yamagata keeps showing increasing maturity. Not as ambitious as Teeth..., but it works better than that album. On some songs, her voice is not as distinctive as she can make it, but on others it is that ethereal, unique instrument. Good songwriting, too. I think she writes alone, but perhaps with others sometime. In any case, she is a true artist. Give her a try.

I have all her albums and while the previous release was good, I was happy to see her style of music to back to something a little closer to Happenstance. Right now, I'm listening heavily to the first 5 tracks (out of 10). I'm sure the other tracks will grow on me.

If you fell in love with Rachael when you heard her first album, this album is for you. If you've never heard of Rachael Yamagata, give her a try. This is a wonderful album and I love it more each time I listen to it.
