Book Description

September 28, 2010
After years apart, Mick and Megan O'Brien are finally ready to make it official…again. Most of their grown children couldn't be happier about their rekindled love and impending marriage this holiday season. Only Connor is a holdout. Driven to become a divorce attorney after what he views as his mother's abandonment of their family, Connor's not about to give his blessing to this reunion romance.

The last thing Megan wants to do is hurt her family again. After all, is she really sure she and Mick can make it this time around? And when an unexpected delivery causes chaos, it seems only a miracle can reunite this family.

Of course, it is Christmas—the season of miracles.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The fourth in the series tells the story of divorcee Megan O'Brien's reunion with her husband Mick. Twelve years after their divorce, they're ready to remarry, but not all of their adult children, particularly Connor (who was especially hurt by the divorce), support the decision. In an argument over it, Mick banishes Connor from Thanksgiving, and no subsequent apologies can bring him around. But the big day arrives and, with it, Connor's girlfriend, who hands over an infant named Mick, giving the family a shock: no one knew Connor had a girlfriend-or a baby. Slowly the O'Briens mend their relationships, growing stronger and closer as a family. Woods's latest is the most benign of fantasies, complete with awkward dialogue ("Age and maturity are two different matters. I'm not surprised that you don't know that, big brother."), flat characters, clunky plot devices, and a predictable outcome. It is also a surprisingly pleasant read, and sure to satisfy fans of the series.

From Booklist

Now that their five children are all grown, Mick and Megan O’Brien have been slowly reconciling their differences and moving toward remarriage. But while Mick has changed in many important respects, Megan worries that his ingrained take-charge personality will be an issue; she is unwilling to abandon her independence until everything falls perfectly into place and all five of her children approve. Connor, especially, hides his hurt behind an insouciant facade; and when the O’Briens discover that he’s also been hiding his longtime girlfriend and their nine-month-old baby from them, Mick loses his temper and jeopardizes his final chance at happiness. Woods continues her popular and heartwarming Chesapeake Shores contemporary romance series with a holiday-themed second-chance romance for the elder O’Briens, while updating her readers on their children and paving the way for Connor, his sister Jess, and good friends Susie and Mack to find their own true loves in her upcoming trilogy. --Lynne Welch

More About the Author

With her roots firmly planted in the South, Sherryl Woods has written many of her more than 100 books in that distinctive setting, whether her home state of Virginia, her adopted state, Florida, or her much-adored South Carolina. She's also especially partial to small towns wherever they may be. In Amazing Gracie, as in her later Trinity Harbor series, Woods creates a fictional version of the town where she spends summers on the shores of the Potomac River. "This town just lends itself to fascinating characters and a charming locale," she says.

A member of Novelists Inc., Sisters in Crime and Romance Writers of America, Sherryl divides her time between her childhood summer home overlooking the Potomac River in Colonial Beach, Virginia, and her oceanfront home with its lighthouse view, in Key Biscayne, Florida. "Wherever I am, if there's no water in sight, I get a little antsy," she says.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas on the Bay, October 6, 2010
This review is from: A Chesapeake Shores Christmas (Chesapeake Shores, Book 4) (Hardcover)
A Chesapeake Shores Christmas draws you in straight away to the story and life of the O'Brien family and the impending remarriage of the parents, Mick and Megan. There are secrets, but most of all, non-communication between many of the family members. It says something for the writing that you like these people immediately and feel their frustration. The characters are well described and even better, since this is a book in a series; it does stand alone. You can enjoy this book without having read the previous ones; but it will make you want to read them too.
You feel the love and frustration of this large family; but most of all their love. It is an enjoyable read and a nice little Christmas book.

5.0 out of 5 stars the fourth in the Chesapeake series, November 29, 2010

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I just finished the third novel in the Chesapeake series (Harbor Lights) yesterday and this book arrived today. I knew it would have the same setting, but didn't realize that it was the next in the series. What a treat! Christmas continues the story of the O'Brien family and the trials they face in their attempts to find happiness. It reiterates the power of understanding, communication and unconditional love. Here the focus in on Mick and Megan as well as their illusive son, Connor. You meet familiar friends and find new ones to enjoy. What I especially like is that each book in her series can stand alone. The author alludes to the other stories without needing them to be read to follow the current theme. This is another quick and thoroughly enjoyable Sherryl Woods book. I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love the series, but this was an afterthought, January 3, 2011

This review is from: A Chesapeake Shores Christmas (Chesapeake Shores, Book 4) (Hardcover)
I have read all the books in this series and have enjoyed them very much. Sherryl Woods does a great job of developing her characters and by the end of her books, I often feel as satisfied as if I have eaten an exquisite meal. However, this book - completing the story of Megan and Mick - seemed rushed and way too predictable. I finished the book in record time, which led me to believe that it was shorter than the other books. Although I read the Kindle version (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Kindle, but that's a review for a different time) I checked the paperback edition which came in at 288 pages, I then checked the rest of the series which came in at 400 pages. Anyway, I do recommend this book if you have read the others, just don't set your expectations too high. If you haven't read any books in the series, start with the first one, The Inn At Eagle Point. You won't be disappointed.
