Christmas on the Bay,
This review is from: A Chesapeake Shores Christmas (Chesapeake Shores, Book 4) (Hardcover)
A Chesapeake Shores Christmas draws you in straight away to the story and life of the O'Brien family and the impending remarriage of the parents, Mick and Megan. There are secrets, but most of all, non-communication between many of the family members. It says something for the writing that you like these people immediately and feel their frustration. The characters are well described and even better, since this is a book in a series; it does stand alone. You can enjoy this book without having read the previous ones; but it will make you want to read them too.You feel the love and frustration of this large family; but most of all their love. It is an enjoyable read and a nice little Christmas book.

I just finished the third novel in the Chesapeake series (Harbor Lights) yesterday and this book arrived today. I knew it would have the same setting, but didn't realize that it was the next in the series. What a treat! Christmas continues the story of the O'Brien family and the trials they face in their attempts to find happiness. It reiterates the power of understanding, communication and unconditional love. Here the focus in on Mick and Megan as well as their illusive son, Connor. You meet familiar friends and find new ones to enjoy. What I especially like is that each book in her series can stand alone. The author alludes to the other stories without needing them to be read to follow the current theme. This is another quick and thoroughly enjoyable Sherryl Woods book. I highly recommend it.

I have read all the books in this series and have enjoyed them very much. Sherryl Woods does a great job of developing her characters and by the end of her books, I often feel as satisfied as if I have eaten an exquisite meal. However, this book - completing the story of Megan and Mick - seemed rushed and way too predictable. I finished the book in record time, which led me to believe that it was shorter than the other books. Although I read the Kindle version (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Kindle, but that's a review for a different time) I checked the paperback edition which came in at 288 pages, I then checked the rest of the series which came in at 400 pages. Anyway, I do recommend this book if you have read the others, just don't set your expectations too high. If you haven't read any books in the series, start with the first one, The Inn At Eagle Point. You won't be disappointed.

When I bought this book, I thought it might make a nice winters read.My problem with it was the plot wasn't well though out. It was just plain boring and not worth my time reading. Only buy this book if you don't have a life and like the characters to keep saying the same thing over and over again!

No More Holidays with Sherryl Woods,
This review is from: A Chesapeake Shores Christmas (Chesapeake Shores Novels) (Mass Market Paperback)
You have to be really into family conflicts, spousal misunderstandings, obstinate children, flaming egos, and an unending decision-making, nerve-shattering prolongation of whether a wedding should take place. There are more roadblocks to the wedding plans for the remarriage of Mick and Megan than a police barricade and a 10 mile stretch of road resurfacing cones. All tender moments evaporate amidst a hail of he said/she said/they said/ I feel/ they feel/we feel. The dialogue is so endless that one forgets that this is a holiday setting with little to brighten the season. Another disfunctional family we do not need.

Having read the previous 3 books in this series, this one is another super great story. The characters and plot are well developed. This story can be read as a stand alone - but to fully appreciate the trials and tribulations that this family went through, reading in order is recommended.

I have fun reading Sherryl Woods books. This whole series has been a fun one with the different flawed characters. I'm glad there are more to come.

Although this is the fourth book in the series (won't be hard to catch up) you'll quickly feel right at home. Sherry Woods is a easy to read author. She has a way to telling her story and makes one feel you are actually right in the book. She can make you laugh one minutes, ponder what is going thru ones head the next and even make you teary eyed at times. Great writer. The book is mainly about Mick and Megan, who were divorced some years ago, but are now trying to get back together again and planning (maybe) a wedding for New Year's Eve. Megan has many doubts..... will she finally resolve them and marry Mick again.... or has way too much time passed. Mick is very head strong and Megan has learned so much after their divorced she is won't put up with some of Mick's hard heartedness. Can they make a go of it? All of their children are now grow with families of their own and has their own thoughts on the idea. Mick has money and thinks that buying his way out of problems will do. Megan has ideas to her own. How can they meet in the middle and make each other happy.... or can they? They have a son who is a divorce attorney that thinks they are all wrong to each other. Can Megan and Mick explain why they divorced... will Conner ever except his mother back into his life? Can this family ever learn to accept each others faults and try to rebuild what was lost years ago? The book is a page turning and I think you'll really enjoy finding out what happens.

A Chesapeake Shores Christmas,
This review is from: A Chesapeake Shores Christmas (Kindle Edition)
After years of being apart, Mick and Megan O'Brien are remarrying. But not all of their children are happy about it. Their son, Conner, has never forgiven his mother for walking out on the family and starting a new life. So he's not about to give his approval to this reunion. Can the O'Brien family heal their wounds and share a family Christmas?A Chesapeake Shores Christmas is a sweet holiday novel. However, I had serious problems with the heroine, Megan, and could never really connect with the story because of it. While I understood how her marriage had fallen apart and I even could understand her need to leave her husband, I could not relate to her moving to New York and leaving her children behind. To me that is the antithesis of a heroine, so I could not cheer for her to have a happy ending. A Chesapeake Shores Christmas is a story about forgiveness and family; I could only wish that the heroine was more sympathetic because it had the potential to be a holiday book worth putting on the keeper shelf. This would possibly be a charming, quick to read adult Christmas story book, if not for the main theme of the book. A couple, with five children, who had gotten divorced 12 years earlier are now going to get remarried during the Christmas/New Year's holiday. Not all the children are happy about this especially their one son, a divorce attorney. This seems to be a fairy tale family with plenty of money, living in a lovely home or the grown children off in their respective homes and successful careers, even a live in grandmother that keep the home fires burning while the mother was off finding herself.I find it very difficult to imagine the actual scenario of a 12 year divorced couple that had never stopped loving each other getting remarried. I haven't read any other books in this series, but if they are all like this book, they are fluff pieces for when you want to read and relax and not have to do much thinking. If that is what you need this is a perfect book. |
