"Clear, concise, and visual—the best assortment of wonder- filled ideas I have seen. A must-have." —Paul Hewitt, author of Conceptual Physics

"Almost as much fun as exploring the Exploratorium, which, of course, is a googolplex of fun." —Jearl Walker, author of The Flying Circus of Physics, with Answers

Now you can do your own version of 26 Exploratorium experiments on perception. All you need is a little curiosity, a few simple materials . . . and this book. Each experiment is easy to do, fully illustrated, and loaded with advice, ideas, helpful hints, and eye-popping discoveries.

Create the illusion of magically floating cubes. Make a bird mysteriously appear in a cage. Through these and other projects in The Cheshire Cat, learn how your eyes and brain work together to see the world in weird, amazing ways.

San Francisco's EXPLORATORIUM, source of the best-selling Explorabook, hosts half a million visitors each year. Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 5-8?Based on the exhibits in the San Francisco Exploratorium, these "science snacks" were originally compiled for high-school teachers. The entries have now been published in a series of books for younger science enthusiasts. This one deals exclusively with light, color, sight, and perception. Each "snack" uses very basic materials but illustrates a sophisticated concept through which readers learn a great deal about how the eye functions and the brain perceives. ("Snacks" are not science experiments?they are more akin to scaled-down science-museum exhibits.) Each chapter has a list of required materials; instructions (followed by a "To Do and Notice" section); an explanation of what's happening; and a section that offers either a follow-up activity, further information, or suggested reading material. The time needed for the set up and activity is also given. This well-crafted book presents a clear and interesting approach to scientific exploration.?Helen Rosenberg, Chicago Public Library, IL
