Check...and...Mate...., October 1, 2005
This review is from: Chess Master (Paperback)
This review refers to "Chess Master" by Boris Zubry
Although this story takes place in 2005, it was written several years ago. Before 9/11, before we knew how vulnerable we really are to being attacked on our own soil. Like a good game of chess, Author Zubry, has the characters in this book, each man on the board, playing their power to the fullest.
In a rare time of peace, the United States is planning a huge and international scale war games exercise. Countries that were once considered to be the enemy are now part of NATO and all will particapte. The government has become lax in it's security, and have no idea what a mistake this will be.
A high ranking official from Russia, General Kutko, has for the last 15 years, been reigning in military strength, finances and allegiance in great numbers with one purpose in mind. Total world domination. All the work they have done, all the planning, will culminate in a few short months. All the terrorists, and key people will be in place, everyone knew their role, it was the perfect plan. Well, not quite perfect. Kutko's right hand man, his confidant, Major Kozlov, who has been in on every detail of what will be a catastrophic event, is human! He can not go along with the plan.
Kozlov feels he must warn the U.S. of what is about to happen, He confides in the American General Foster. Will Foster believe him, and if so, will anyone believe Foster? Can Foster's small but tough group of loyal knights plan the perfect moves to knock off this power hungry king?
It's more then just an intriguing story line, one that will really leave you thinking about it. Russian born Boris Zubry, gives us quite a look into the backgrounds and mindset of all the players. It is quite a character study and political and history lesson as well. A good look at the strangle hold the KGB had on it's members, one that will not let go. Zubry also threw in a couple of twists, that totally took me by surprise.
It's true as another reviewer mentioned, this book did not receive a good edit. Sometimes a sentence took on an entirely different meaning with the misspelling of one word. However, once I got passed worrying about grammar and such, I realized that Mr.Zubry's words only added to the authenticity and charm of the story. It was captivating and intriguing, and like a good game of chess, had you wanting to think three moves ahead. I would recommend it and one I'd like to read again someday.
Five Stars to Boris Zubry for a real eye- opener, one that leaves you thinking!
Enjoy....Laurie

THE KGB AND SEPTEMBER 11., November 3, 2001
This review is from: Chess Master (Paperback)
Some people say that the Russian KGB was behind the September 11 attack. Well, terrorism is the KGB trademark. Was Arafat involved? Palestinians... Muslims from other Arab nations... Islam in general... Mr. Boris Zubry presented some interesting ideas. But what was wrong with editind? Rutledge Books, inc. did not do a good job.
