Biography

Canvey Island, Essex, was an unlikely birthplace for Britain's finest R&B band. Its bleak industrial skyline set against the cold waters of the Thames estuary, keeps it from inclusion in most holiday brochures, but in the 1960's it was home to teenage friends Lee Collinson, Chris White and John Sparkes.
The trio shared a strong interest in music, and with like minded friends, formed a skiffle band… Read more in Amazon's Dr. Feelgood Store

Editorial Reviews

Repackaged edition of this 2000 album from the British rockers. This release was the first album to feature new vocalist Robert Kane, formerly of The Animals II. Dr. Feelgood have just the right amount of respect for these songs, but it doesn't stop 'em jerking them around a bit and remodeling them in their own inimitable style. A great Dr. Feelgood album, but more importantly, a tremendous rockin' Blues CD. Grand. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Solid Album But Singer is Only Competent, April 25, 2008
This review is from: Chess Masters (Audio CD)
This is a Good Solid album that I'd recommend to anyone, excellent job on song selection of Chess classics, excellent playing, good production. The lead vocals I would only describe though as average or competent in that they neither detract from the songs but they don't add anything to them, either. I wish they had their former singer, Pete Gage, who replaced Lee Brilleaux after he sadly passed away, but for some reason he was replaced. The current lead singer, Robert Kane, is as I said, neither bad nor great in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feelgood about blues classics, August 10, 2002

Blues Man (Wivenhoe, Essex United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chess Masters (Audio CD)
...
From the opening bars of Nadine (which Robert Kane takes by the scruff of the neck - listen to the Chuck Berry version first and then see how much more ballsy it can be) to Hoochie Coochie Man, blues lovers are in for a treat. The album was recorded with a minimum of overdubs and has a raw feel to it. Steve Walwyn on lead guitar can hold his own in exalted company and Kevin Morris on drums provides a solid intelligent (and you can't say that of many drummers!) beat. Give this album a chance and surprise yourself...

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst ever Dr. Feelgood album, August 3, 2000
This review is from: Chess Masters (Audio CD)
The new singer is just awful. They replaced a decent singer (Pete Gage) with someone who can't carry a tune. Shame on you, Dr. Feelgood, but as the late great Frank Zappa said: "We're only in it for the money".

Steer clear of this release and buy any other album from Dr. Feelgood but this one.
