This is a nice book with a good solid repertoire for black. It isn't too flashy and isn't likely to score any miniatures, but you will never have to give this up. I get a book like this for completeness. If someone lashes out a line like the London for instance, it's nice to have a nice easy system to learn for black. I also like to learn these solid systems and have them as a fall back for when my risky lines take beating after beating. I can always go back to these openings without fear of refutations. Another good thing about these particular variations (Sicilian Accelerated Dragon/Nimzo Indian) is that these defenses are assymetrical. There are no exchange variations or positions in general that lead to pawn structures that grind down to a dull draw. These can be played all the way out without fear of a forced draw by the unambitous white player. Don't get me wrong white can get equality, but equality and a drawn position aren't the same thing. Just A Few Of My Thoughts ... Thanks

What made Alburt's book great for me was its interconnected repertoire. Each of the reccomended openings is related to another opening, making it easy to study an idea that covers a variety of situations and not just a single opening.

The book is also in an easy to read format, with subvariations and main lines clearly defined and well presented. I definetly reccomend this book.

Excellent system for black. Great book for those that like exciting attacking chess. The book emphasizes the sicilian against e4 as well the nimzo against d4.

My rating is currently bouncing around in the 1400-1600 range and I thought this book was great. For me, the best part about this book was how clear and to-the-point they were. The chapters weren't too long and each variation was very clearly explained. I also tend to like books that rely more on verbal explanation of the ideas and strategies in each opening rather than just saying, "30a1b6)," giving a line, and then counting that as explanation. This book did a great job with lots of verbal explanation and when they did mention lines, they were relevant and they explained what the lines were supposed to illustrate. The authors also did an incredible job of cutting the loads of theory in the Sicilian and the Nimzo-Bogo down to a manageable size. I would recommend this book to anyone.

The openings for the black pieces are essential to becoming a complete chess player. Although white has the initiative, black can mount an attack and defense that is more than adequate, too. ...GM Lev Albert, is an excellent chess player and national champion, and Russian state champion. GM.Albert knows a thing about playing the black pieces,so this book is an excellent choice.

My son (12 years old) loves this book. He said it is understandable. He started to read it when his rating is about 900, now his rating is 1300 and he still reads it.

I bought this book to add to my white repertoire, and have found the analysis of the Hyper-Accelerated Dragon to be very good. There are also some uncommon openings discussed as well. I would recommend this book. (I'm currently rated 1205, for what it's worth).
