Book Description

April 18, 2007
This Publication represents something new on the chess scene - an attempt to establish a serious theoretical magazine in the English language. In so doing, we present no threat to the already long-established chess magazines, but rather do we attempt to supplement them. Our special province is the field of opening theory. With each passing tournament bringing a spate of innovations, it is almost impossible for the average player to keep up with them, especially so as most theoretical works are in a foreign language. This is where we come in to fill what is becoming a considerable gap in periodical chess literature. ... Alternatively, of course, the magazine may be read simply for enjoyment as each article is crammed with fine chess and many complete games. - From the original introduction to the first issue. Raymond Keene is a British Chess Champion, and the first British Player to achieve a FIDE (World Chess Federation) Grandmaster norm. He was awarded the OBE for services to chess in 1985. He is Chess Correspondent of The Times, The Sunday Times, The Spectator, and The International Herald Tribune. He is a prolific author of chess books, several of which are classics of the genre. He has organised three World Chess Championships.
