More About the Author

Barbara Ebel, a physician-turned-author, was born and raised in Queens, NY. She has lived up and down the east coast and her career paths have ranged from business and science, to teaching and medicine. After years of being an Anesthesiologist, she brings medical insight into the background of her storylines, especially those involving the operating room. However, her primary focus is still her novels' plots and characters.

"Doctor Barbara" has a trained therapy dog, Chester, and works him in middle Tennessee. Because of the dog's growing popularity, she was encouraged to write a children's book about the dog. She used Chester as the template to inspire good behavior in children such as sharing and learning rules. She is both the writer and illustrator of the three Chester the Chesapeake books; she uses real pictures and the stories are from Chester's point of view.

She lives with her husband and pets in a Tennessee protected wildlife corridor. "A writer's paradise," she says.

Her adult fiction books are: Outcome, A Novel: There's more than a hurricane coming..., and Operation Neurosurgeon: You never know...who's in the OR.
Her nonfiction, self-help is Younger Next Decade: After Fifty, the Transitional Decade, and What You Need to Know.

I really enjoyed reading this book to my grandkids. The pictures are cute and the comments are quite wry. Using photographs makes this story more "real" for children, and the gentle lessons put forth are a great inspiration for discussion.

My three year old daughter loves this book! As she has a dog of her own, she can really relate to the story about learning, compassion and kindness. She brought the book to her preschool one day to share with her class - it was a huge hit as kids can relate to animals so well. I love the personal touch given to the book by the author Barbara Ebel. It is lovely all around and would be a welcome addition to any child's book collection!
