More Chester!!,
By
This review is from: Chester's Back! (Hardcover)
I'm a children's author and I loved "Chester". He reminds me so much of my cat. It's obvious Melanie is a cat person. I loved Chester so much that I put "Chester's Back" on order so I could read it as soon as it came out. The books made me chuckle, and I'm sure it will be a big hit with the kids and the kittens in all of us. The Chester series has fun drawings that Chester adds to with his red marker, as well as additional comments. I give Chester an A.

What an amazing sequel! Chester cracked us up the first time and continued to keep us rolling the second time. My students and I cannot wait for another book by Melanie Watt. We enjoy her humor! (It is also a really good book to teach your students about VOICE in writing.)

AWESOME BOOK ! ! !,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Chester's Back! (Hardcover)
"Chester's Back!" is about a fat orange cat (Chester), the author and illustrator Melanie Watt, and a mouse. It is so totally hilarious and definitely deserves 5 stars. (I wish I could give it more, but the max is 5). I'd say the best part is when Melanie tries to replace Chester through an audition. Yet he ruins it with his red marker. Well, for all of you who haven't read any of these books, I recommend you read the whole series.

This is not as good as Chester, the first book, but the bar was set pretty high. Chester's Back is certainly a very fun read. My kids love Chester!!!! I took the first Chester to read to my son's first grade class. The class asked me to read it again and they asked their teacher to read it the next day, as well.

Chester Returns in Wickedly Wacky Story,

This review is from: Chester's Back! (Hardcover)
Chester's Back is a delightful sequel that made my students laugh, giggle, gasp and beg for the book to be read over and over again! I loved the battle of the ink colors- it made the students consider the issue of audience within the story! The open audition had the students making text-to-text and text-to-world connections that left his librarian in awe! While my students rated the first Chester book as the best, they hold the two books as some of their favorites that I have read aloud all year long!
Where is book 3?

Lock up Chester,

Chester should be locked up until he can be more clever and fun (like his first book) and less bratty. The illustrations are as great as the first book but for me the funny finicky feline became an obnoxious adolescent.

No underlying story and it included a faulty premise. Not a good mix when trying to get a good star rating.,

This book is not one of my favorites. I think the story got lost when the author tried to get a little too creative for her own good. Since all the red marks on and in the book are supposedly written by "Chester," the book doesn't even have a title. Oops! I guess the book deserves 5-stars for illustrations and 1-star for text. That comes to an average of 3-stars, an OK book. Not that I'm kidding above, but the red text and the black text was rather confusing to me. I even tried to read the book a second time to see if it made sense. And it didn't. If the red text is eliminated there is no underlying story to this book. And the premise of the book is that Ms. Watt wrote the book and then Chester marked it up with a red magic marker. This book needed an underlying story to it written in black ink for me to rate it higher. 3 stars! PS. I'm quite surprised my public library wasted money on this book. |
