Delicious recipes, charming illustrations & lots of info.,
By
This review is from: Chestnut Cook Book (Mass Market Paperback)
Not only a wonderful cookbook, but an informative and charming look at a nut I had only heard about in song. Annie first tells us about the history of the chestnut, its "relatives" and its many uses. I was surprised at how nutritionally complete the chesnut is, and how low in fat it is. The cookbook is filled with delicious ways to use this versatile nut and is wonderfully illustrated throughout with drawings by Annie. I highly recommend buying this book, whether it is to add to your collection, or to learn more about a forgotten food source.

Extremely informative & well written However: The typeface is cumbersome & makes the finest book I've found on Chestnuts (their history, use, recepies & their future;) a particularly laborious read.... Still worth getting... Wear good glasses...

Great Cookbook With History and Tales of the Chesnut,
By
This review is from: The Chestnut Cook Book: Recipes, Folklore and Practical Information (Paperback)
When I first ordered this book, I thought I was getting a basic cookbook with chestnut recipes (which in itself, is something hard to come by). I was pleasantly surprised to find out that not only is it a book full of recipes, but also contains history, tales, and enjoyable stories of the chestnut. I find them to be quite interesting. The author also includes many recipes from all regions of the world, spanning the generations.Chestnuts in general have always been apart of my family's holiday season. This book adds a nice compliment to my family's holiday tradition. Plus, it also shows me how to enjoy chestnuts throughout the rest of the year. I let my father borrow this book, and I never got it back! Now I have to order another copy for myself!

This book is recommended by TACE (THE AMERICAN CHESTNUT FOUNDATION) for one very good reason. It is the best chestnut book that is widely available. Well written, with great info on the chestnut and cookable recipes, this book deserves a spot on the cookbook shelf. [...]

This book is great! It had recipes of course but it also has a short history of the American Chestnut tree too. So you get the best of both worlds, a cook book and a story from this book.

This turned out to be a great, comprehensive and informative little book on the little used and very little written about chestnut! From history to its horticulture its all covered. There are plenty of recipes to try. All worthwhile and not complicated. Well worth having in your cooking library.
