Ok first off this IS an expensive wallet for a man of my limited means so if I spend this much of my hard earned money on a wallet it better be worth it. This Full Grain Leather Bi-Fold Wallet (Large) is just exactly what I need. You see I have cerebral palsy and lots of other disabilities. I tend to be VERY rough on wallets. Vinyl wallets forget about it, I render them useless in 4 months. Cheap leather wallets I can destroy in 8 months tops as the threads eventually pull through the buttery soft leather with continual use. By having Cerebral Palsy when walking my hips and legs do things to keep me balanced that create all sorts of weird stresses torsional stresses on my clothes and wallets. Add to that when I reach for my wallet I am not gentle. Cerebral palsy makes grabbing things a snag and snatch sort of affair. I do not have the fine finger coordination or manual dexterity to gently remove my wallet from my pocket so my wallet must be built tough. The stitching must be sturdy enough to handle the strains and stresses I put on it. The leather and stitching has to be tough enough to handle rough treatment. This wallet comes with a 100 year warranty so this guy really has faith in his product. I brought this wallet to see if it can stand up to the test of surviving use by me, the very disabled autistic werewolf. If this wallet survives 20 years living with me I would consider it almost indestructible for its purpose. Its been over 4 years now and everything still looks good. I had one given to me as a gift 4 years ago and it is holding up extremely well. The leather is very hard at first but as the seller says it is a good thing. Those buttery soft wallets are comfortable but they wear like garbage and are rendered useless by my hard life in over time. I have had my gift wallet for 4 years now and it is getting comfortable. My wallet is pliable but not still no where near what one would call would call buttery soft. I liked the wallet so much I bought a 4 more. Even brand new this wallet is not what I'd call HARD but it is certainly not buttery soft. Frankly buttery soft a quality expected in things I want to eat. I want my wallet to be tough but a good fit in my blue jeans pocket and this tough leather wallet fits the bill perfectly. I like this tough leather wallet better than any other I have had in life. I think this wallet is a real working man's wallet because; like any hard working man it is just plain tough. I am a tough old man with cerebral palsy who has life rough so I don't need a buttery soft wallet that can't deal with my reality of falls scrapes and abuse. As a real working man I want a wallet that is as hardcore up to the task of surviving rough and tumble times as I am. I liked my gift wallet so much I am brought more so I can have one in each color. I've brought a few of these wallets as Christmas gifts for those few people I like. Every Christmas I get reminded by friends how well my gift of this leather wallet to them is holding up. So far the men and one lady I gave this leather wallet as a gift love it. The wallet is holding up well for all. Oh some reviewers say this wallet is extra hard on plastic cards, like credit cards, bank cards etc. I have four plastic cards in my leather wallet and only my 35 year old condo access card has broken. As for the claim "They'll Fight Over It When You're Dead", who knows, humans are such weird creatures. Humans will fight over anything given half a chance. Look at the bright side if, "They'll Fight Over It When You're Dead", at least you won't be around to hear all the fussing, belly aching, griping and moaning. In the off chance you are lingering about in the hereafter then you'll get a show for your money... Wow what a Bonus!

I am a person who enjoys the process of researching a product before I make a purchase, and if you are reading this review you may enjoy it as well. I wanted a new wallet and wanted a tough leather wallet that had some craftsmanship and quality materials. I googled something like "saddle leather" thinking that I might find some good information on leather and stumbled on this brand. I continued my search but it seemed like all roads lead to saddleback. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the materials and leather work. Now this is a wallet with a larger footprint. I am not a large man, 150 lbs and something like a 32 waist and it fits in all of my rear pockets, some tighter than others but it does fit. Now you would think that a large wallet like this is going to fit everything but the kitchen sink but it really dose not. What it does do is force you to pick and choose what you want to carry and give you very easy access to what you do carry. For example I have my debit card and frequent shopper card taking the two top main slots. They are what I use the most. The third main slot holds everything I would hand a police officer if I was to be pulled over, driver's license, insurance card, registration and CCW license. The last main slot holds a credit card and a few different health insurance cards. The leather will stretch to fit the volume that you place in each particular slot. If I put a single card in the slot that has been holding several cards for the last six months it fits loose but the design, the way the closing of the wallet captures the cards not allowing them to fall out, makes this less of a problem. The two pockets that reside underneath the main slots has come in handy for holding receipts, extra loyalty cards, and spare debit cards and credit cards. They are not as easy to get at as the main slots so I keep less used items in there. I find myself using one side for extra credit card like items. I have kept the number to something like four total and organized two deep side by side just like the slots above them. Works very well. The other pocket is for receipts that I can be reimbursed for by work and that million dollar lottery ticket lives there too. The main cash pocket is deep, I mean real deep. May come in handy if you travel and deal with odd sized money. Now the feature that I didn't give much thought to during the research was the hidden flap. It is a flap of thinner leather that can be pulled out of the main compartment to hide a few paper items behind it. It is not a quick operation and involves emptying out everything in the main compartment to do so. This means that whatever you do place back there will remain hidden from cashiers, spouses, friends or anyone else that might glance into your wallet as you open it to pay for an item. I like having a couple hundred dollar bills in reserve for emergencies but don't like the idea of "flashing" large amounts of money around. In summary I have been very happy with this wallet. I feel a pride of ownership and that is what I really am after when I make a purchase like this. If I could do it all over again I would buy the same wallet and if I was to lose it or it is stolen I imagine that I would buy the same wallet to replace it. Thank you for reading my review and hope it to be helpful.

Tough, Masculine, and Pretty,

I'm hard and wallets (expensive wallets) and decided to find something that could stand up to the abuse. I think I have found the anvil of wallets - yet it looks so elegant. If you must have buttery soft and supple leather or a lightweight wallet, don't buy this. If you can appreciate a tough yet beautiful leather, then I highly recommend it.

It's Too Big!,

There is no doubt this wallet is very well made and it will not wear out in the next 100 years. It is definitely a good peice of leathercraft, and I love the marketing on this.
However, putting what typically goes in most Men's wallet is next to impossible because the space is so tight. The wallet itself is much to thick to consider comfortable in a hip pocket compared to traditional wallets and will take a lot of use to break it in to where it would be. While I do admire it from a craftsmanship standpoint I am not using mine, and this is a good example of the difficulty of buying some items on the Internet.

Typical Saddleback quality. It's very well made with thick, top quality leather and heavy stitching and should last many, many years. It's like something from Texas in 1880. It looks good, feels good, and smells good.I've carried mine for two years and it's just now getting broken in. I've crashed a dirt bike a few times and been soaked to the bone with this wallet in my pocket and the wallet is completely unscathed (my pride not so much). Like That Girl from high school it only gets better with age and will develop a lot of character from being used as it was meant to be. I take care of mine the same way I do my leather boots: once a year or so wash with warm water and soap (a real wise man once pointed out to me that leather is animal skin so don't clean it with anything you wouldn't use on your own skin; dish soap takes out too much natural oil so I use shampoo), let dry slowly, then apply a beeswax leather treatment. Done and done. The card pockets are extremely tight at first (I actually destroyed a credit card by bending it while trying to jam it into one of the slots when I first got the wallet) but will loosen up nicely with use over time. I carry around 2-3 plastic cards per pocket with no problems. Behind each pair of card pockets is a large pocket that will swallow your registration and insurance paperwork, lockpicks, silver dollar, spare motorcycle and office key, photos of the aforementioned That Girl, phone list for your road guys, etc. Really quite useful and ingeniously designed. The main pocket is of course adequately sized for FRNs (I've not used it for any other currency so I can't say how that would work). The real feature to look at here is the hidden pocket. Basically it's a full sized flap that to the untrained eye looks like part of the pocket. You can stash emergency cash under the flap (big bills to maximize your carrying capacity, around 5-7 FRNS is all I can fit without it becoming too unwieldy and hard to open and close due to the friction between the bills) and nobody will be the wiser. Potential downsides: It's freakin' 'uge. Really. It's the biggest wallet I've ever used, much bigger even than the Specops THE Wallet that I carried for years. I recommend making a cardboard analogue (with 2-3 cards per slot and the aforementioned emergency cash in the hidden pocket and other accessories mentioned above mine is ~0.8" thick, ~4.2" wide, ~5" tall as I measured it in my cube today) and carrying it for a few days before ordering to make sure you can handle it. It will form and mold to your body with use, however. Mine has taken on a nearly oval cross section from hip pocket carry and despite it's size is quite comfortable. I don't carry it in my back pocket since I have a creaky back and my yoga butted MILF physical therapist would scream in horror at the thought of me sitting on this all day and cranking my spine. To me, it's more of a hip pocket wallet anyway since it's so thick and square. YMMV. If you're a smaller guy you may not be able to pull it off in any pocket, kinda like pocket carrying a pistol: the bigger you are, the bigger your pants and therefore pockets are and the easier it will be. Also, since it's leather it will never be perfect. It will pick up rubs, dings, and scratches from use so if you're a perfectionist you'll never like it. Bottom line: If you can work with the size and thickness, need the capacity, and want a very high quality leather wallet go for it. It's not too expensive to try if you're on the fence and could easily be resold if you don't like it.

This is a great wallet and well worth the money. I just received this wallet earlier today and I have to say, this wallet is made with the highest of quality. This is my first wallet with a cost over $40 and many things stand out on this wallet that the other wallets lacked. The Stitching in this wallet is outstanding, it seems like they took their time on it and made sure it was perfect before sending it to me, I dont see how this wallet will ever fall apart. The smell, it smells like what a real leather wallet should smell like. Lastly this thing will last forever, there is no chance of this wallet ever wearing down, falling apart, or anything; this is an amazingly high quality wallet. The only downside is that i didn't expect it to be so big, I knew it was going to be big but not this big. Its still a great wallet and fits in my pocket but before you buy it take a piece of paper and and fold it once vertically and once horizontally, thats how big the wallet will be, also without anything in it the wallet will be about 3/4 inches thick. Overall I say buy this wallet, its an amazing wallet and will be the last wallet you ever buy. |
