Very simple, if you like Chet, you will like this. He has no bad albums...just good and better albums. This is one of the better ones.

Was there anything Chet couldn't do?,

This review is from: Chet Atkins Cgp (Audio CD)
You'd be correct judging by the number of Atkins reviews I have on my amazon.com reviews page that I regard Chet as the best guitarist in the history of the instrument, bar none. That I give this album 5 stars is no surprise, either.
"CGP" is one of Chet's excursions into jazz work. He experimented with jazzier tunes throughout his career, but really took to it after leaving RCA for Columbia and established himself with a whole new cadre of devotees. "CGP" does not feature the dizzying fretwork of his earlier music, but it does show his love of great melody, superb chordal arranging and playing (good chord work is so underrated) and hipness. A man this talented taught us what cool was. We didn't teach him. It's mellow, lots of keyboards, and has a nice version of Lennon's "Imagine" and the Lovin' Spoonful chestnut "Daydream". For those interested in his jazzier pop side, this is a good place to start.
