4.0 out of 5 stars Leigh Greenwood keeps getting better and better
I picked up a few of The Cowboys from a sale at the library and I can't believe I bought 4 of the best romances written for $2.00! Chet is one of the best. Strong, considerate and horribly unsure of himself. He's the sort of cowboy/gunslinger any woman would swoon over had he been a real live man.

Melody Jordan makes a great heroine. A little uppity at first, any...

This is the first book I read of this author because the story line seemed interesting. I should have started with Greenwood's earlier books because this one is terrible. It reads as if the author dictated the story and the result was never edited. Way too much exposition, and he told me everything as if I had the brain of a pea. It's so much better if a writer takes me...

Melody Jordan makes a great heroine. A little uppity at first, any true romance reader can get past her upbringing and look forward to her "change of heart". It's a wonderful book and hooks you right from the start. (Just don't start it late at night....you may never get to sleep.)

This is the first book I read of this author because the story line seemed interesting. I should have started with Greenwood's earlier books because this one is terrible. It reads as if the author dictated the story and the result was never edited. Way too much exposition, and he told me everything as if I had the brain of a pea. It's so much better if a writer takes me where he wants me to go instead of just telling me what's going on.

On the advice of a friend of mine, I tried this author again with the first book in his "Seven Brides" series called Rose. It was infinitely better, tighter written, and quite enjoyable. Greenwood still told me more things than he needed to, but I forgave him for that a little bit. It just seems to be his way to dumb things down occasionally.

Don't waste your money on this book, buy the brides' books instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Leigh Greenwood's - Chet, December 10, 2009

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series of western/romance genre with some historical facts included... I'd have preferred to read the books in sequence, but it wasn't too troublesome as long as you begin with "Jake". The writing is simple, and seems to reflect simpler times... I liked the historical references to the times and that area of the country.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chet (Cowboys Series), August 5, 2009
This review is from: Chet (Cowboys) (Mass Market Paperback)
It is hard to single out one of Leigh Greenwoods books as I have read all of the Cowboys Series and Seven Brides plus a few others and loved all of them. He is a very good writer and I would like to read more of his books. Chet and Melody was very special as was his brother Luke.

Another great one from Greenwood. You just knew from reading the earlier books in the cowboy series that you would love Chet and Luke and believe me Leigh Greenwood does not disappoint his readers at all. Of course we knew he wouldn't let us down. I look forward to more from Mr. Greenwood.
