This review is from: Chevrolet Vans, 1987-97 (Chilton's Total Car Care Repair Manuals) (Paperback)
Though Chilton and Haynes seem to be the only aftermarket auto service manuals available these days, they don't have the complete detailed information of the old "Motor" manuals (The big, blue books) of the past.
Too much is left un-addressed by this and other Chilton manuals. If the topic you're looking for is covered adequately, great. If not - too bad. You're left with no reference at all or an abbreviated "procedure" that says to perform steps A, B,and C - but fails to tell you how to perform "B" and often that some pretty important steps happen between A and B. Better than nothing - but that's often not enough. If you have an older vehicle or one you prefer to service yourself as opposed to taking to a mechanic, I would suggest you pick up a copy (typically a set) of the original factory service manuals. Unfortunately, these are pretty pricey unless you can find a cast-off one. |
