O.K. but not stellar,
This review is from: Chevy El Camino and SS, 1959-1987 (Paperback)
This is an OK book of stories about El Caminos. The only color pages are on the front and back covers. The stories on El Caminos are from various car magazines and GM puff pieces. There is no nitty gritty discussion on what makes one El Camino better than any other. This is a good addition to your library but if you're shopping for an El Camino buy it with the thought you are only beginning your journey.

Very Interesting!,
This review is from: Chevy El Camino and SS, 1959-1987 (Paperback)
I enjoyed all the old magazine articles! I have never seen a book put together like this one. It reminds me of looking at old magazine car ads and I like reading those. I ran across several neat facts and little things I didn't know about El Caminos. I think this is a must buy for your El Camino book collection & I'm glad I bought it!

This is a great book if your an El Camino fan or owner and have an interest in the history and progression of the El Camino thru the years. Just being able to read about the different models, comparisons, road tests and specifications from different sources over the years is fascinating and fun to read, especially when you find one based on your exact model. Nowhere else could you find all these old magazine articles unless of course you have a giant collection of old magazines and the time to dig thru them.
I noticed some not so good reviews that mentioned a "Chevrolet bias" and nothing more than a compilation of "magazine articles", but then I'm not sure what else you would be looking for if you know the definition of "portfolio", which is exactly what this book is and what the books title says it is. I would guess the Chevrolet bias would be due to the fact it's an El Camino and SS book.....surprise. Magazine articles just happen to be where new products thru the years are introduced to the world, so I find it fun reading how the El Camino was written about in it's day and how it progressed. Granted the pictures are black and white and color would be very nice but that aside there are a ton of very good pictures and information. No complaints from me, I love this book and enjoy reading it, and looking at the black and white pictures.

The info in this book was old magazine articles and others put together. Actually, media hype. Which for car reviews and keeping the manufacturers on their toes is okay. But to really gather accurate historical info without a slant at all is not possible in this book.
