4.0 out of 5 stars A story for the young child!
This book and the other shape book are intended for pre-schoolers and beginning readers. It gives a breif outline of what happen to "Chewie" during the three original triology movies. It is super for the child of a star wars fan. Something to read at night that won't bore mom or dad to sleep.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lackluster Tale of Wookies
I picked up this yarn expecting a hard-hitting essay on my favorite beastly hero known as Chewbacca. In actuality, what I got was a childish, simpering account tailored for pre-schoolers. I mean, Chewbacca is such an overlooked character and he and his race of Wookies are begging to have their story told. The author of this book blew a golden opportunity to do this...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excitement for the simple minded, March 7, 2003

I read stories to my little dog before tucking him in at night. Thursdays and Sundays are fright night stories where little Frisky is read startling and sometimes bowel moving Tales of horror. It's hard to find a good book that would cause excitement for a young pup but,Chewbacca the Wookiee, by Art Ruiz delivers. I love to see the anxiety build up in Frisky as I flip through the pages, move the book around and read to him as if the book were alive. The dog can easily relate to the wookies described in the book due to their complete body fur and same language. There is a moment of climax in the book that sends my dog straight out the door and to bed for the night. I don't want to give that scene away but if getting chased by a screaming hair covered Wookiee that almost magically appears from inside the book sounds thrilling, then this is the book for you.

The author of this book blew a golden opportunity to do this. The author could have dealt with the inner turmoil felt by Chewbacca. His home world was taken over by imperial stormtroops and everyone forgets that. No, everyone else is more concerned with Endor, Alderaan, Hoth, Tatooine. Come on! Some of these worlds hardly had ANY inhabitants much less ones containing the proud warrior race of Wookies. I'll still keep reading Little Golden Books in the hopes of seeing this dealt with the future. Hopefully this "warm, fuzzy" Chewbacca will be replaced with one more fitting to the zeitgeist. I give this book one star, though, because I liked the part where Chewbacca jumped out and went "MAH!"
