5.0 out of 5 stars Great Calming DVD!, September 3, 2006

This review is from: Chi Kung for Health ( Qi Gong ) - Six Seated Meditations (DVD)
I think this is a great DVD. It moves very slowly. It is very calming. Because it is seated, most people could do the movements. My arms did feel sore the first few days but then I got used to it very quickly. And I always felt so much more grounded afterwards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good instruction and routine on qigong, meditation, and breathwork., July 8, 2007

This review is from: Chi Kung for Health ( Qi Gong ) - Six Seated Meditations (DVD)
Overall this is a very good Qigong (aka Chi Kung) DVD. You get 6 seated meditations. There are three basic seated mediations and 3 "monk serves wine" mediations. They are all seated and utilize breath control with the Chi Kung arm movement. You will start each of the mediations on the DVD with 3 deep breaths, then a sequence of differing percentage of lung capacity exhales, then the qigong practice. There is also a cute intro from zen-bear ;O)

Here's the exercises/practices:

Exercise 1: "Monk Gazing at Moon" palms are inward at eye level. This is the longest of the 3 basic mediations. Starts with 3 deep breaths, then exhale 5%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 60%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 80%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 40%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 30%. Then you hold the posture, relaxed; hold egg shape with hands, then rotating hands slowly out and in.

Exercise 2: Palms are up near waist. Starts with 3 deep breaths, then exhale 50%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 30%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 10%. Moving arms with palms down slowly up and down.

Exercise 3: Arms down, palms facing. Starts with 3 deep breaths, then exhale 50%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 10%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 50%. Qigong.

Monk Serves Wine: These 3 mediations have move choreographed sequences of Chi Kung movement. For each exercise there is a segment where you learn the movement, then the following segment you practice breathing with the movement.

Exercise 4: Starts with 3 deep breaths, then exhale 90%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 50%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 40%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 30%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 10%. After the breathwork commence with movement you learned.

Exercise 5: Starts with 3 deep breaths, then exhale 50%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 40%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 30%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale1%.After the breathwork commence with movement you learned. I like this one, it is a earth meditation movement.

Exercise 6: Starts with 3 deep breaths, then exhale 90%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 80%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 50%, inhale/exhale/inhale, exhale 20%. After the breathwork commence with movement you learned. Wide chest movement.

I have been looking for a seated qigong after practicing standing qigong for a bit of time. Terence Dunn is a very good instructor and the DVD is well worth the money. The background music is very mellow, but I am not sure where the desert-like back ground is filmed. Does anyone know? It is very well chaptered and you get clips from other DVD in the menu interface.

This is by far the best presentation of this Taoist set of exercises and although seemingly simple to practice they have good effect. Definitely recommend most of Terry Dunn's productions which are professional and easy to follow especially if a teacher is not accessible from where you live.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Meditations, July 2, 2007

I was given one of the dvds in this series as a gift and enjoyed the slow practice very much. Due to chronic vertigo, it is not always easy for me to find a practice that is comfortable for me and does not exacerbate my condition so when I saw this dvd of seated meditations I was eager to add it to my collection. On days when my vertigo is causing me problems, I will happily pop this dvd in and work through the meditation practices. A lovely and perfect addition to my personal practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calming And Acessible, January 3, 2009
This review is from: Chi Kung for Health ( Qi Gong ) - Six Seated Meditations (DVD)
I have ben working with Yoga, Tai Chi and Qi Gong to some degree or another and wanted to try to keep consistent in my practice, mostly to help relax and reduce stress by addressing the physical aspect of where I carry stress and the emotional element by meditation. Of course all these elements are intertwined.

This DVD is a good set of practices that are easy to do since they are all seated. There is a good concentration on breathing and making sure you concentrate on the breath which helps with stress reduction.

These focused exercises work wonders. If you are looking for a way to reduce stress and feel better, allowing time for relaxation and meditation helps go a long way and Qi Gong is not physically demanding, at least on its most basic level, and this DVD is one to start with.

5.0 out of 5 stars HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, September 11, 2009

First of all, the DVD is the second one of a series and is very well produced. It was filmed on a beautiful location and has soft music playing in background.

This program presents 06 seated meditations from the Flying Phoenix Celestial Healing Discipline. 03 of them are called basic and require simple movements or no movement at all. The next 03 meditations, called "Monk Serves Wine", require some choreograph, but they are also very simple.

Terry Dunn teaches and explains each movement a couple of times, before initiate the meditations. After following him in the demonstration, you will be ready to practice the complete meditation by our own.

Each of them takes about 10-15 minutes to be completed and they all have fast and profound effects. Practicing some of them for a week and you will feel energized.

I've been practicing different types of qigong over the last decade and this one became my favorite one for its simplicity and powerful effects.

Terry Dunn has done a great job . I highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear instruction from a master, June 21, 2009
This review is from: Chi Kung for Health ( Qi Gong ) - Six Seated Meditations (DVD)
This is the best qigong instruction I have seen out on video. Terry's instruction is nicely paced, the postures and breathing sequences are easy to follow, the background music nicely supports the exercises without taking over. Between Terry's instruction and the music, I find it easy to stay focused, even with my eyes closed. And after just 25 minutes, I am feeling clear, balanced, and lit from within. I am recommending this to anyone who needs a simple yet powerful way to experience their own calm Presence.
