5.0 out of 5 stars Worked like a charm
I received this as a Christmas gift last year. I followed the instructions in January, and by March the sprouts flourished into plants. By summer, I had repotted all of them twice and they are now HUGE. My friends are always shocked at the growth of my "basil tree", as they call it. 3.0 out of 5 stars Works in the short term, but not for long term use
This seemed like an easy way to get started growing herbs for cooking. They grew quickly and we used them, however, once they were ready to move into a larger container (2-3 months), they started to die. Also, I noticed flies (like "fruit flies") appear and sprayed them with organic plant bug killer. About two weeks later I noticed white/translucent worms in the sponge...

By summer, I had repotted all of them twice and they are now HUGE. My friends are always shocked at the growth of my "basil tree", as they call it. I owe my success to south-facing windows and religious watering (infused with drops of plant food.) I don't have a green thumb at all - in fact, I'm a known plant-killer. But I was able to get the Chia herb garden to grow like a charm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply adorable, January 19, 2007

I got my Chia Herb Garden about a month and a half ago and making them grow has been very easy and pleasant. They are still tiny but they are doing good. My advice is to follow the instructions carefully: frequent watering, trimming, full sun or artificial light as explained in the instructions and plant food. Not only they can be used in cooking, they are very decorative and cute.

I received the Chia Herb Garden about 3 years ago and not only was it easy to start, but most of the plants are still going strong. I have more chives and parsley than I know what to do with. These are also some of the tastiest herbs that I've ever eaten.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works in the short term, but not for long term use, May 4, 2009
This seemed like an easy way to get started growing herbs for cooking. They grew quickly and we used them, however, once they were ready to move into a larger container (2-3 months), they started to die. Also, I noticed flies (like "fruit flies") appear and sprayed them with organic plant bug killer. About two weeks later I noticed white/translucent worms in the sponge they originally grew in. I threw them away immediately.
Seems like they should be able to be removed from the sponge since the roots were strong. But, the instructions said to keep them in the sponge when re-plating into a larger container.

5.0 out of 5 stars A completely different experience, December 25, 2005

My experience with the product was nothing like "Dr. Teeth's". The product was well packaged, and I had no trouble getting my plants to grow. The kit comes with a well-written instruction booklet that provides not only basic information on how to get your plants to grow, but also includes instructions on how to transplant your plants outside if you wish. It also includes information about each herb, suggested usages and a few recipes. Dr. Teeth bashed the product for coming broken - that isn't a failure of the product but in the handling of it! Maybe he should stop smoking weed, read the instruction booklet, and contact the company for a replacement!

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money!, January 12, 2011
I've been growing herbs the old-fashioned way (indoors and out) for over 40 years and never had any problems. When I saw this Chia Herb Garden in one of our local stores, it sounded like it was an easier and quicker way to get results - at least according to the package instructions. Boy, what a disapointment! The only thing easier was to plop the wet sponges into the little pots. Well, it's actually just as simple to fill a pot with some dirt and add the seeds. Reading the instructions that were enclosed with the Chia Herb Garden were actually more involved than growing my herbs the regular way. Also, most of the seeds that came with it were either way their expiration date or just didn't take. I got a few spindly seedlings? even after keeping the sponges wet and covering them with plastic bags, as instructed. I talked to a few of my friends who bought different Chia Pets in the past and not one of them was satisfied with the results or would ever buy them again. Guess we stick to the old proven way instead of wasting our money on another useless invention.

I did everything I was suppose to do, and I came up with nothing. I was so dissapointed. I was looking forward to growing my own herbs. What a waste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Miraculous! I didn't kill them!, January 3, 2009
This review is from: Chia Gourmet Herb Garden (Health and Beauty)
I am the worst serial killer the plant world has ever known. I don't know what it is about me and plants, we just don't harmonize well. I found this set on clearance for $7 and since I cook with fresh herbs all the time and my kids are always bugging me for something "CHA-CHA-CHA-CHIA!" I figured I would throw the money away and give it a shot.

To my utter amazement, the stuff actually works! I vaguely followed the directions as I planted them on a day when I had 8 children in my home, all under the age of 10. I had little hope for this set, so I didn't really even try.

Not even two weeks later, every plant is at least an inch and a half tall and is looking lovely. Everything grew far better than the manual implied and I have not been doing anything special or particularly nurturing to these pots! I throw 'em near the window every day for a little while (but only a very little while because I have a very wily toddler who would love to come across these on a windowsill and throw them all over the kitchen!) and water them whenever it occurs to me.

I have not had the pleasure of harvesting or eating my plants as yet, however, I am just tickled to death that they are growing heartily and looking fantastic! It's great to find a product that actually does what it says it will! Good job, Chia!

4.0 out of 5 stars Chia Herb Garden, August 16, 2007

Overall, pretty good. The kit came with 4 pots and six sets of seeds. Instructions were clear, easy to follow. We chose 4 plants -- parsley, cilantro, dill and chives. Three herbs did just as predicted. Chives never sprouted. While this is disappointing, it's not surprising given the uncertainty of "agriculture." We haven't yet transplanted to bigger pots with soil, but are hopeful this will work well because of the strong sprouts we have right now.
