1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY - YOU GET BUGS!
I read the review from the person who had bugs in their order of chia seeds from this seller, but there were so many other good reviews, I thought it was an isolated case. Unfortunately, mine was filled with bugs as well. You could actually hear them moving around in the plastic packaging this product comes in. I'm totally disgusted and hope this seller will be forced...

I can soak a teaspoon or so of Chia seeds in a cup of hot tea and sip it throughout the afternoon, and it helps to keep me from feeling hungry thanks to the gelling action of Chia's fiber. Thanks to Chia seeds I can get sufficientfiber more easily through food, rather than taking bulky pills. I was also thrilled to read that the seeds are high in iron, calcium, and omega-3, all things that I really need. I follow the advice I found online somewhere and start my day by chewing a small amount of seeds, *then* drinking down a cup of water. The few moments' head-start before the seeds encounter the water allow them to absorb some of the excess acid that bothers my stomach.

I highly recommend doing a quick web search; there are plenty of suggestions out there for using Chia seeds in a variety of ways. They can help you to eat less without causing nasty drug side effects or negatively impacting your nutrition intake.

The 1 lb size offered here is a nice introductory amount to experiment with, and it's sealed well in heavy-duty packaging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old memories come to live again, November 28, 2010

Any Mexican over 40 years old probably remembers drinking "agua de chía" (chia water) at some time or another during their childhood. I was able to make chia water again, thanks to these seeds. At that time, we did not know about all the health benefits of these little seeds, we only knew they made a simple "agua de limón" (lemonade) taste even better! The instructions indicate to mix the seeds with water, but you will be surprised if you add them to a lemonade, and let it sit for a while in the fridge before drinking it. I assume the seeds will also enhance the flavor of any fruit juice if mixed with them. Of course when I was a kid these seeds cost almost nothing. Still, I think they are worth every cent. So glad they are still around. People who like them should try "amaranto" too!

I am the biggest fan of Chia Seeds now! I had no idea that they were a protein. I bought these to sprinkle on my yogurt for breakfast and salads at lunch. I feel full for hours! I don't eat much animal protein and eating Chia seeds had made me feel much more healthy and strong.

Seller of this item was a joy to purchase from and I would recommend them for your Chia and health food needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chia = World's #1 Superfood, February 21, 2011
This review is from: Chia Seeds - 1 Pound (Rich in Omega 3's) (Health and Beauty)
Nutritional benefits of Chia seeds are amazing. Here are a few to start:

*According to studies, Chia possesses the highest percentage of the polyunsaturated fatty acids(linolenic and linoleic) of all crops. Chia seeds contain 60% omega 3 fatty acids.

*The protein content of Chia is higher that other nutritional grains. Unlike other grains, it is a complete protein, meaning that it has the appropriate balance of all essential amino acids. About 19 to 23% of chia seeds weight is protein.

*Chia seeds are high in fiber, a 15 gm serving of chia seeds will provide 4 to 5 gm of fiber. Our body requires at least 35 gm of fiber a day to stay healthy.

*Chia seeds contain boron which is essential for bone health.

*Chia seeds are rich in calcium, about 2 oz of chia seeds contains 600 mg of Calcium, as compared to 120 mg for a cup of milk.

*Chia seeds have 2 times more potassium than banana.

*Chia seeds have 3 times more antioxidants than blueberries

Regardless of the astonishing nutritional values of Chia, it also tastes very good. My girlfriend and I make a big pot of "steel cut" oatmeal at night (the quick way is throw a cup of oats in 4 cups of boiling water and just let it sit overnight), put in a good helping of chia seeds, and the next morning you have a wonderful breakfast that could last all week depending on how many people are eating it. Feel free to add a little cinnamon, peanut butter, fruit, or your own oatmeal favorite additions.

There are many other recipes for eating Chia, but oatmeal is my personal favorite. I started eating Chia last year after reading the NY Times Bestseller 'Born to Run' about how a tribe of Mexicans that eat Chia will drink beer, smoke tobacco, and then run up to 500 miles in a footrace. One of the primary contributors to their seemingly supernatural physical ability is that their diet is full of the nutrient-rich Chia seeds. I started out paying an arm-and-a-leg at Whole Foods for Chia seeds, but have since started buying them on Amazon for a fraction of the price.

Buy some Chia seeds and make a delicious bowl of oatmeal for one of the healthiest breakfasts possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Smoothies, January 8, 2011

This review is from: Chia Seeds - 1 Pound (Rich in Omega 3's) (Health and Beauty)
Chia seeds are great for smoothies. Soak them in water overnight and add the mixture to your favorite smoothie the next day. The label on this product states you can whisk them in water then wait 15 minutes before using them. I have tried this with good results on those mornings when it's time to make a smoothie and I realize I had forgotten to soak the seeds the previous night. These chia seeds came packaged in a high-quality resealable zip-top heavy plastic bag that stands upright on its own. Chia seeds are tiny and stray seeds like to end up on the kitchen counter. This packaging helps to keep them under control.

These are great! We are using them in baked goods, on salads, even just eating a teaspoon of them for snack sometimes. If the health benefits are as great as advertised, then this is indeed a near perfect food.

We are definitely making chia seeds a staple part of our diets and hope to reap the great health benefits that they promise.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Powerful Little Seed!, March 31, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chia Seeds - 1 Pound (Rich in Omega 3's) (Health and Beauty)
After I recieved my first one pound bag of Chia Seed, I mixed them with water, waited about 5 minutes, mixed again and drank this mixture down without a problem. You see these little seeds act as a thickening agent giving what ever you mix the seeds in a tapioca consistency. The longer you let the mixture sit before eating or drinking it, the thicker it gets, you can make a gel out of the chia seed and mix the gel into anything you want to eat or drink. Here's the bottom line for me...I felt plesantly full within a 1/2 hour of taking the chia seeds, my food intake went down along with my cravings. Able to make it without snacking between meals and at night while watching TV if I start to wonder what I can munch on, I just mix some chia seeds in water, drink it down and have a zero calorie snack that takes away the need to snack. A side effect of just generally feeling good in body and mind, had me telling family and friends about this powerful little seed. Within a week of taking chia seeds I ordered another 3 pounds. This product is a gift from Heaven for a person, like myself, who needs to lose weight for health reasons and for the need to be able to play with my grandchildern. Check it out for yourself...there is tons of info on chia seeds and its many uses in food on the internet. What do you have to lose???

If you soak it in water for 10 minutes, it becomes a lot like a gel. If you don't like gel much, just add a little more water. But it's easy to drink and is basically flavorless. I'm happy with the quality of the product. I plan on buying larger quantities of chia seeds in the future.... like the 5 pound bag. I'm taking 1 tablespoon twice a day with 6-8 ounces of water. I actually look forward to taking it. And I'm not sure why since it is tasteless. I guess I just like knowing it is a great source of omegas, calcium, and a complete protein... and has many health benefits.

I got my Chia Seeds in a timely manner and in good shape. I was not quite sure what to do with them once I got them, but have found them delicious on my cereal, in smoothies and much more. There are actually websites dedicated to how to use your Chia Seeds in yummy recipes. Delicious and nutritious!
