This review is from: Chiasmata (Audio CD)
The music in Chiasmata was "recorded during a concert in the planetarium of the National Space Centre, Leicester, UK on 01/11/03." You wouldn't really know it until the end, because there is no audience noise until the end of the final piece, and into the encore. It probably would've been a pretty cool & trippy experience to be present at this performance.
The sound quality of this release is excellent throughout. The content is mostly the more somber side of Ian Boddy, though a few tracks do get into some more energetic sound. The synth sounds used by Boddy are quite interesting, probably being most similar to the softer side of Jean Michel Jarre, and lapse into some nice sort of retro stuff here and there, sounding a bit like a cross between old Depeche Mode and The Future Sound of London or Aphex Twin, while maintaining Boddy's unique sound overall. A nice CD to have on in the background while working on something or while just chillin' at night. I say a solid 3 stars here, but Chiasmata isn't really exciting enough for me to give it more than that. |
